Heavy's HK5

Resolved the rough acceleration issue. Im glad it was a simple fix and had the parts on hand. I need to make it standard procedure to just give the 'ol girl a tune up after returning from every deployment. I know my kid starts her up once a month or so but when it sits that long I should just give her a basic tune up. A couple of the spark plugs were barely finger tight. Some fresh plugs was all she needed. Just shaking my head over this.

I posted on my FB group page that Im thinking of bobbing/narrowing the front and rear of the K5 now that I have the dually to pull DD and tow duties. Here in TN, the K5 will still be street legal if I bob it so I can still drive it on the road if and when I get the itch. Heading out this Saturday to Turkey Bay, KY for some wheelin, after which I will be starting to cut into her to at least do the front end. MTF.

Cut the body off, at least the side panels, take em down to a single wall then build a framework to mount them on.

Same as with the fenders. Only takes about 10 minutes to skin those.

It's much easier to narrow a Blazer like this. Does take some patching to get it all seamless if you want but it's not a big deal. Couple of doors get ya plenty of patch peices and it doesn't matter if the bottom is rusted out cause you probably won't use that long of a peice

So, its been a few months since an update. Been busy with training and increased responsibilities at work. A few months ago I decided I wanted to narrow the front end of the K5 and so it begun...

It ended up with this:

Still a work in progress, slow going with my schedule as of late but getting there. This all started because I had picked up an 82 dually 2wd but then someone made me an offer on the dually that couldn't pass up. I was offered nearly double what I paid for it. Then the hunt was immediately on and I found and picked up an 84 K20 350/465 which I am driving daily now. Will probably start a build thread for that here shortly.

Now Im on a couple weeks of leave and so I started working on a winch mount since I narrowed the front and sold off my old tube bumper. I took a page from Pblaze but with my twist. Obviously not done but should have things dialed in the next few days.

So, I got to this point where I welded up the rest of the relief cuts, slapped some primer and paint on it and installed it back on the rig with the fairlead.

I was going to leave it like that till tomorrow but got anxious to see the winch in there so after dinner, I tossed in the winch.

Then I stepped back and pondered if the winch would clear the lower valance......

Happy to see that it cleared with no cutting, I said "F@*k it" and laid in the grille and buckets....
