Awesome! Are those the headers I sent you? ;) I'm getting ready to buy those same headers here in about 2 weeks so I'll post pics too once I get 'em installed.

Huge diff in clearance, looks like those would be "the ones". Nice.

For reference, heres what the Hedman 69890's look like installed, which hit the shackles and hang down a bunch more.

I just installed these on my 87k5 and they fit like a glove. The only issue for you automatic guys is the drivers side dumps out directly in line with the factory shift linkage. I just ordered a cable shifter that will cure that. Just wanted to say thanks for the part number

I am putting a set on right now with the air tubes, not sure why, but I had to shave a 1/4 inch off of the lower part of the frame to clear them, I think it might be the poly motor mounts I have holding the engine up higher.

Gabe- Do you have a part number for the cable shifter??

I'm assuming you can't just route the exahaust around or under a hair to clear? Is the collector end right where the shifter is?

One good thing about those ball/socket collectors, they don't need to be perfectly straight/lined up, which might give you some dump options. :)

the shifter linkage is about 6 inches directly behind and centered on the header outlet. I dont think that the exhaust would be able to be routed around the linkage. That is probably why the headers that are listed for the k5 hang so much lower than these do.

ps Ill get some pics up tonight or tomorrow

6" away should be plenty. Heck of a lot cheaper to bend some pipe than replace the entire shift mechanism, at least as I see it. You've gotta do the exhuast anyway, might as well make it work for you.

Easy to do yourself too...take two 90* bend exhaust pipe sections, cut the bends wherever you need to so that the part can be cleared, and weld the two pieces together. Don't need a bender to do this.

Had to do this on mine to get around the crossmember, although not as extreme and in such a short distance..but mine weren't made from 90* sections.

ok, let me rephrase. 6 inches is from the end of the header. Once you mount the flange on there you will have about 3 inches before it hits. Im sure that there is a 1/2Donkey'd way to route it, but I dont think it would work very well. Esp since you can get a cable shifter for $120 and be done with it.

The flange is nothing but pipe. Cut it off and reweld wherever it gives you the clearance necessary, all you care about is the flared end...anything past the tiny bit you'd need for weld purchase is fair game. It's not a shortcut, there are bends all along your exhaust already.

You've gotta do the pipe when you install headers regardless, I guess if you need to justify purchase of a $120 part over $10 of pipe, its personal preference.

Its about making things work properly. I don't take shortcuts that will cause other problems. To clear the linkage you will not only have to go up but also towards the transmission, then back out towards the frame. I am having a new exhaust installed by an exhaust shop that specializes in Hotrods to keep everything as up and tight as possible. Also the factory linkage for the shifter has given me problems in the past due to the design. I would much rather spend $120 on a shifter that will work and have the exhaust as freeflowing as possible. I take pride in my truck and pride in how well everything fits and works. Also once you have as much $ tied up in a rig as I do another $120 is a drop in the bucket.

here is the current build thread

Do you have a stick or is it auto?

I'd like to do headers and I've been worried that the driver's side rear primary will hit the clutch cross shaft...

its not that big of a problem.for this i just heated up the z bar and bent it a lil enough to clear the header.

I am using the same header on my 90. Yes the linkage is close but it does go over the top of the exhaust. I'll look at it more when I start running the pipe but tonight I checked it after reading this and I don't see any problems on mine.

69820's do the same thing. Refer to: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229869

Summit was willing to work with me, but I did not speak to Mr Artzner (sorry).

Hedman definately was not willing to help. Their shop is about an hour away near L.A. and I showed them pictures about how it fits and where it contacts the shackle. Their production manager wasn't even willing to listen.

Oh well, guess I'm back to square one.
