jeep stuff and now a volvo!

You don't need an ls. The red tractor engine is plenty capable of making 400hp.
But yeah....I want one too. The little guy in the back of my head keeps talking about it.

I finally inspected the turbo on the volvatron. Lots of play. Binds up even. Removed it. Found the wastegate was just barely hanging there. Loose bolts on the oil drain (only leak on the engine), Helecoil in number 3.
Sweet goop repair job on the plug wire. I have the receipts from the previous owner showing new manifold and turbo gaskets 1500 miles ago. Great job they did. That might be my misfire when cold. Might still be an injector problem. I guess I will throw some new wires on too.

Don't mind the ripped strut mount in the pics. 200k on them + speed humps didn't mix well.

Got the new turbo on. 10psi is much better and no more oil leaks

Ripped the front struts out.
Used 1.6" drop springs
Upper bearing plates
Bearing reinforcement plates from a T-brick guy
New wheel bearings
ball joints
Fancy rotors
Stainless brake lines
Used 25 mm ipd sway bar and new bushings

Bought a sweet custom built header, 3.5" down pipe, external wastgate with screamer pipe from a T-bricks guy. Now I will have to re-re-clock the holset. It will be worth it. There are big gains to be had over a ported manifold. It should be here (making the wife ask questions I don't want to answer) tomorrow

So the lj has been getting almost exactly 10mpg since i got it. Usually 175 miles on a 17.5 gallon fillup. I think the best tank I got was 190 miles.

I was driving home the other day and noticed I could hear the cold air intake. Kinda weird. Then the next day I thought I heard an exhaust rattle....then the check engine lamp came on just after a cold start. So I cycled the key 3 times. P0431. Warm up cat efficiency bank 2. Dammit.

Pulled the front pipe out. The rear cat at the manifold was melted and plugged. Front one wasn't much better. So I gave them both the hammer and chisel treatment. Slapped thr pipe back in. Kinda weird with only 22k miles.

Since that happened...
1st tank. 13.0mpg.
2nd tank 12.6mpg
3rd tank 12.7mpg

Much better. Sounds a little louder (good) and has a little more power. Pulls I 205 from oregon city in 6th now without flooring it to hold speed or shift to 5th.

I bought a 02 sensor simulator. Going to wire that in to turn the check engine lamp off.

Do you need the simulator? I'd be nervous that it would throw off your fuel curve by getting rid of the 02 sensor.

It has 4 oxygen sensors
The simulator is for the o2 ' s after the cats. All it does it is fool the pcm into thinking the cats are still there. The o2 ' s in front of the cats will stay. Chrysler does use the rear ones for some fuel trim movement. But it's mostly to keep the cats working at optimum efficiency

Got it. Forgot about all the o2's now. Fooling the post cat ones should be fine. :-)

I'm not sure what my deal is with catalytic convertors, But I melted the cat in th volvo going to work. I could barely go 55. So when I got home I cut the rear cat off. It looked ok. So I drilled a hole in the bottom of the cat in the downpipe. Used a punch and a hook tool to break up the cat. Fired up the car to blow all the chunks out. Welded the hole shut.......and.....

FULL BOOST! holy crap. She goes like hell now. Loud as ballz but damn she scoots along. I think the cat was plugged from the get go. I also put a new in tank fuel pump because the hose that connects it was cracked causing my high pressure pump (under the car) to make wierd noises.

Well.....it didn't take me very long to break it again. The driveshaft carrier bearing came out of the rubber holder. I took it apart and found that the driveshaft is worn where the bearing rides. So the bearing just slides on and off by hand, not tight at all. Crap.

Juggling some options. I want to swap from the stock m46 trans to somthing else that's Lighter and stronger. I would just rather do it now and not waste money fixing what I have....then redoing it in a few months when I blow the m46 to pieces

Located some more parts.

Used "530" head and matching valve cover in running condition. Just need to do some port clean up and get it over to the machine shop to get the snot decked out of it. ( more than 7.5:1 compression woukd be nice for low speed power) It also features smaller coolant jackets to prevent the head gasket from blowing and allow for more porting.

I also picked up an ipd turbo cam. Got it for $40 cheaper than buying it from ipd yet it's still new in the box

Tried to leave for work the other day. Backed out of the driveway, turned and.....hmmmm...the rear locker is locked......pulled forward......clang!

Ruh roh....

Pulled the rear cover...chunks......

Ordered up a grizzly locker and some carrier bearings. Slapped it in in a couple hrs so I could get to work the next day
