Is the passenger side pipe going to run alongside of the drivers pipe? Then merge?
Yes, I am building my own merge pipe, because I am loco, and didn't like the ones that I found, for the money. I just forgot what happened to the piece of 4" I had laying around at work...
:doah:

Yeah, I won't claim to be a welder!
This is what I made a piece of 5 inch pipe into, before I had to scoot home and do some work on the sprinkler system.
This little project isn't economical , or anywhere near grand, but I am pleased with the progress.
Using a hose clamp, vise, large socket, the anvil, pliers and a C clamp, I done made sumtin' !
Now I just have to finish it, and fit the other pieces to it.

What size heat shield did you get and what diameter is your exhaust?
It's a piece 4" x 12". It is supposedly for 3", IIRC.
I am going to put it on 2.25 pipe.
I hope to have a picture of it installed this week.

I want to cover 2.5" exhaust so I'm thinking the 6"x12". I wish they had an 18" piece. I haven't measured yet but I feel like 12" will be a little short.

I wasn't trying to wrap the pipe, and I am only dealing with the part directly under the oil pan, of a small block. So you go ahead and over-compensate!!!
:haha:

I won't be wrapping the pipe either. The circumference of 2.5" pipe is 7.854" so I'll be about 1.854" short of a full wrap with a 6" piece. Although now that I think about it more, I really only need to wrap about half the pipe, so maybe the 4" would work and save a little money. The circumference of 2.25" pipe is 7.069" so 4" a good size for that but even 6" wouldn't fully wrap it.

My crossover runs between the trans dust cover and pan. The width of the 4l80 pan is 13.5" and the pipe is at least 2" longer than that so that's why I was thinking 12" isn't quite long enough.

Another question, do you think the pipe shield could go around a 90 bend in the pipe?
