From buying parts for mine, 1997 seems to be a parts change model so pre 97 would be early.

LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
It seemed that way but when I had my 95 one and the one from the donor 05 both out they looked identical. Infact, there's a chance I confused them and ran the diesel one
Which may be part of my issue lol.
So going by that I'd almost have to say any one with the 2.65 hub would work...
Maybe they mean real early.... Like 91-92 ish or something.

That thread took me nowhere still.
I did see that by pics in it, and old pics on my phone I'll be able to tell which converter I put in for sure.
They were physically the same looking I think, but definitely different cosmetically. One was spot and oil covered, other just rusty lol.

Ok I found it. But mine seems to stall way lower than they say.... Maybe due to lack of torque down low.

Seems like a lot of work to get a couple hundred rpm. And if I'm not happy with it I'd have to do it again. Kind of a tough decision.

The more I read the other forums and converter dealers stuff, it seems the short snouts are listed as 91-97, and the long snouts are listed as 91-09. So it would probably be correct that a long snouts one will work in any like was hinted at in the other forums.
I had to go thru this myself and never could get a firm answer. I ended up going with one that was application specific. In my case it was made for a 4l80e behind a 350sbc. It had 2.65" hub height on a 2200-2400 stall. I fretted about the hub height working until I received it and it worked fine.
The (2) 4l80e that I'm running both came from behind 454's and the stock converters were 2.05" hub height.

Another thing I did was look thru RockAuto to see what hub heights they showed for different applications.
Whenever I order a custom converter for a 4L80E they just need to know what engine it's going with for the spacing, and if it has a midplate. Because the spacing is different for a LS than a SBC or BBC. The bellhousing didn't change. Not sure on the pump. There was an intermediate range where they used 6.0 LS engines with a spacers between the converter and the flexplate from the factory, but I believe that stopped right around the same time they stopped offering the BBC behind it. I could be wrong on this, just going off memory.
They also sell LS flexplate kits to use an LS behind the SBC/BBC converters, which also works with a TH350 or TH400, etc.

I didn't use the diesel converter. Just checked. So it is supposed to be stalling much higher. Not sure what that means . It's already expecting the torque curve of a 6.0 LS. So I would have thought it'd be better than it is.
It's a 2005 LS, so has the right spacing for the converter. I do remember measuring them from floor to end of the snout and they were the same, according to the pics I've seen and the difference is one has a dish in the end and the longer snout compensates for that. So where it contacts the pump, and the flex plate should still all be the same.

Heath found a cam for me that should be quite generous in the power department.
And we're gonna port my heads and get new springs in them. Since they'll be off I'll get the right thickness gaskets to bump up the compression, and get my quench were it should be.
