LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
Had garage door chit to do the last few days...
But it's in the air again at least :thumb:IMG_20260111_212810352_HDR.jpg

Last night, I got the new transmission cooler in, and the oil cooler mounted finally too.
IMG_20260116_003857062_HDR.jpg
I made a guard deal to direct air flow through the trans cooler when the fan is on. IMG_20260115_235239780_MP.jpgIMG_20260116_003816372.jpgIMG_20260116_003846351.jpgIMG_20260115_230924229_HDR.jpg
It's about an 1/8" off of both the rad and cooler.
It should make air go through the cooler without just pulling around it.

I had to clearance the plastics a little for the oil cooler. But not enough to matter.
Still have to check the actual grille for clearance. Should be minimal if needed though.IMG_20260116_004012316_MP.jpgIMG_20260116_004002662_MP.jpg

I'm not worried about the oil cooler having the same air direction guard. Heat was never an issue with it. And even if it gets warmer than normal, I have plenty of head space, as I'm running it at 170*.
Usually it hangs around 175-178 in the summer, and rarely turns on the second fan.
Almost didn't even put the oil cooler in :dunno:

I verified that the new transmission has the exact same output shaft as my 95 one does, so that's awesome.
And both are threaded for a fixed yoke, so that part didn't matter I guess.

Also, had the driveshaft tested and it's all good.
So that's a load off.
I'm still going to look into having a good one built.

I got the oil cooler plumbed in. And changed the bad line while I was at it.IMG_20260118_144805451.jpg

Also, ever since I put this engine in the truck, I've had a nagging in the back of my head about the torque converter only being bolted with 3 bolts.
The converter had 6 pads, but the flex plate only had 3 holes.
Totally fine with a nova, Chevelle, etc. but with this power, possibly more in the future, and a 6500# truck, I'd rather have the 6 lol.
So I bought a new flexplate with the 6 holes.
Measured it all out, and it's going to work good.
Still SFI rated as well.
Only thing I need is shorter bolts because the old one was flat with a spacer, and this one is dished with no spacer.IMG_20260118_131406697_HDR.jpgIMG_20260118_131433760_MP.jpgIMG_20260118_131332018_MP.jpgIMG_20260118_131339578_MP.jpgIMG_20260118_132713129_MP.jpgIMG_20260118_132723267_HDR.jpg

Bolts on order already.
Once I have them, I can start putting this back together.
Hopefully by next weekend it will move under its own power.

Just found out looking at other stuff, that my new flexplate is Chromoly . Hadn't realized that.

Not bad ,.. $97 from Michigan Motorsports.
My last 2 were $300+, and most of the ones I was finding were that or more.
Then this popped up, so I jumped on it .
Had planned on drilling the other 3 holes in mine. I was only looking at plates bored at work trying to stay awake lol.

There is one difference, that isn't huge, but I noticed it.
The ring gear, and I assume the bolt face are .060" of an inch closer to the block face.
All that means is one more washer under the converter pads to make it the same runout.

We'll see when I get it all together.

You need to step up to the strength of an Equinox! You need 8 bolts to handle those 170ft-lb.

The only difference I see is the circle diameter is possibly bigger, both have the 8 bolt crank bolts.
I believe we were talking about converter to flexplate bolts.
But of course these are not normal 170 ft lbs, they are 170 equinox ft lbs

Luke, I know you just want to brag up your Equinox’s superiority, but look close, Ricks flywheel has 8 bolts to crank as well, making a legitimate challenge to your Equinox.
He will be using the superior plan of 6 bolts for the converter though, so how does the Equinox measure up on the larger diameter bolt
pattern?

I wish I could ADD that equinox's 170 to my engine!
That'd easily get me to 800 :waytogo:
Then I'd only be a 100 shot away from my goal :D

Yeah, you're right. Oops. I think I was off thinking that all LS had 6 crank bolts, but this one is special.

Ls9, LSA, and the Gmpp lsx all have 8.
Think all the LT series does too

So. This is where I'm at at the moment IMG_20260120_183107203_MP.jpg

Trying to think of which one of these lines would be the best seamScreenshot_20260120-184910~2.jpg
Can't really go any higher than the green due to inner structure.
Could use a mid point between the bottom edge and blue also.

Just realized that planishing hammer thing was in the other thread I started about YT bodywork channels lol.

I've seen a vid of another dude doing that with a needle scaler, but his the hammer part comes out, so you always have to worry about how it's oriented.
Mime stays in, so you can hold it however. You just can't weld a bigger pad on it without messing something up probably.

As for the fender , I'm going to have to use some of what I've seen on those YT channels to fab up the repair pieces on the inners.
The other side the outer was in better shape, but the inner is worse than this one.

The visible part of the inner is already worse than the other side, and there's dirt, probably salt too, packed up in the red area as high as the dent at the rear.Screenshot_20260121-055220~2.jpg

Transmission is in. IMG_20260123_214348548.jpg

Still have to bolt the torque converter and cross member down. But it's in :thumb:
Converter has .205" space from what I can measure using stacks of various thickness washers lol
So I'm good there and don't even need washers this time. I originally thought I'd need more.IMG_20260123_212218638.jpg

Definitely changing the pan when I do a filter change about 400-500 miles in.
Not a fan of the recessed drain plug.IMG_20260123_213350243~2.jpg

Ill try and get those things done and the cooler lines hooked up today. If I even get a chance lol.
My one day off in forever and for the next few weeks and it happens to be my nieces Birthday....
What are ya gonna do ..? :dunno:lol.
