M1009 Standard Shift Build(The Greatest Adventure)

Awesome, I remember how amazed I was at how capable your rig can be with just a rear locker! I think I have set of OEM 14ff spring plates if you need them. Are you gonna try and make it down yo Rausch in Sept?

I had a front spartan the second time I was at Rausch. If you remember the rear was not working when I put my bedside off that big rock. I was thinking of running DIYs spring plates with the extra holes in them( not that I can't drill more holes). I will also be getting an easy inch and trying to pick a diff cover. I really like the counter sunk bolts on my current type. If I didn't want a sye I would have this axle in before rausch. Anyways to answer your question, Yes! I want to go to rausch again and I have that Friday off so I'm planning on it.

Glad you bought it. You seemed apprehensive on thevphone.

Ok givr us pics!!!

Ok, I'm bad with numbers... I need a new ujoint where the yoke meets my driveshaft in the rear. Does anyone know which joint that should be? I don't think I mentioned before but Stephen at ord showed me a trick with folded up paper to keep it fitting snug. I have been pretending everything is great and crossing my fingers, but now my truck is ready for a little down time and tlc.

I will also be repacking my wheel bearings, re-greasing my drive shaft, and all that sorts of stuff.

That's weird. Usually it loads every pic I post twice. One big one and one little one.

For the u-joint, just go to NAPA and tell them what you need. That's what I did. Or are you talking about a conversion joint for the 14 bolt you just bought? Do a search on here. Lots of guys have asked about that one.

Tapatalk did that, but I upgraded to tapatalk 2 awhile back. I like it a lot more, because it has been so much easier to upload pictures.

My 14bsf didn't need a conversion ujoint. My driveshaft bolted right up. If yours doesn't I read you can swap the pinion yokes between the 10bolt and 14bsf.

I need to replace the one in my truck right now. I don't anticipate this axle going in until I work out a sye setup.

Are there any other modifications people can think of that I should be considering at this time?

One thing I am considering is a more protective shock mount on the axle.

I always wondered if it would be possible to rotate the shock mounts up so they didn't hang down so far. Maybe use stock shocks with a low lift that way?

I already have the billsteins, so there will not be a shock change. I may mount them just so they don't hang below and try to box the mount in.

This is true.

In the case of your currently needing a u-joint, I have always found it best to bring the old one with you. Just in case the parts guy looks up the wrong one you can compare.

Are you dead set on the SYE? Planning on abnormal amount of rear suspension droop or flex? I have been running a rear CV slip yoke since the lift without issue. SYE is definitely the way to go if that's what you want to do. But you can get by with a CV slip for most on/off road situations.

Mods for when the new axle goes in? You are right on target with either the SYE/CV shaft or a CV slip yoke shaft.

Did the PO know what truck that axle came from? What brake size in particular? IIRC there were different size drum brakes and you will need to know when it's time to order those parts. Or, there's always trial and error... :haha:

Bring it with me, duh. I need to get my brain at a higher functioning level. Thanks Brian!

I have a picture of the window sticker from the truck the axle was removed from.

I want a sye so that I can wreck my rear driveshaft and still get off the trail or even drive home if need be.

On a side note, I have been totally abusing my antique plates this week. My computer won't post pics either. It looks like I'm off to the apple store. I think because it is an automotive related trip this definitely counts. :thumb:

I fully updated my computer, phone, and apps when I got home. Thats when I started having issues.

Time to reboot 'em. And your wireless router. We have had a lot of bad weather on the east coast too. Maybe some networks are down or something.

Alright-

Autozone has a 20% off whole purchase shipped to home and free shipping right now :thumb:

Coming my way from the zone-

Drums, Shoes, All the springs and things including ebrake stuff, and Wheel Cylinders!

From Purple cranium-

New Rear Diff Cover. I went with the half cover this time. It actually looks like it has better protection than the full cover.

And lastly from DIY-

Spring Plates, Mounting Brackets, Center Pins, Ubolts, and Shock Mounts!
