My 5.3 swap thread!

That's a good idea! I think with the little bit I have left to do I will just pick it up at the parts store. No pics of today's progress but here is a before pic of the area that needs loomed, cleaned and organized.

EDIT: After, almost done.

Ther are lots of thinks we see that are not what we want them to be and most people will never notice.

No kidding. I try not to obsess over those things. Over all so far im pretty happy with how its turning out. I think that for the most part the untrained eye would think it was the original motor. Which is what i am shooting for.

the local online classifieds here in Utah (ksl.com) have several intakes and air boxes. just a quick search showed 2 '02 silverados and an '08. asking prices were between $60-$100. I don't know if that is anywhere near your price range, but if you are interested, I could look into it more for ya.

Just make your own with a little help from Home Depot. Hell, if I can make one, it cant be that hard.

I had a "factory" one on mine, it looked like hell. Even after cutting off and welding up the sound baffleing horns and catch basin thingy. So with some 3"black pipe 2 black collers, primer and glue,I had my tube. The 90' and other hose came from KarTek. Air box is out of a 04 PowerStroke[It's modifyied too.]

Reasons for useing that airbox is because I figured if it could supply air to a turbo diesel a little 5.3 should be fine. Plus it was Free.99!

That really doesn't look to bad. Even tho the factory stuff does look not so great, it still looks factory which is my aim.

That is a slick looking option.

I used a intake tube off a gto and flipped it over to the passenger side. I just have a cone filter on it and I plan on making a bracket to support the filter and maf.

Got the fan installed! Pretty neat freebie! Only had 1000 miles on it so its pretty well new. Also got a bunch of other stuff done today. Had to pull the starter back off to get the dipstick tube back in so i did that. Then while the starter was off i bolted up the torque converter. Tightened up some bolts that i still had left loose down there. Got one side of the exhaust done but the other side needs cut and welded and the sawzall just wasnt cutting it... No pun intended. So im going to use the bandsaw at my uncles place. HOPEFULLY, before/after the dern superbowl tomorrow i can finish the other side. Then pretty much all i need is to hook up a few other things and get a dar gun throttle cable that no parts stores seem to stock so i just have to hope the junkyards have one. Anyway, here is a pic,

Thanks! That pic makes it looks a little dirty and ratty. But really its coming along pretty clean and when its "done" it will be pretty well presentable.
