My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

So much of the "aftermarket" parts are just crap....

Spectre is a classic one. "Braided" hose that are just phony aerospace fittings with an el-cheapo hose clamp hidden underneath. Cheaply plated chrome "dress up" items only serve to cheapen the entire look of the vehicle.... I'd take a factory OEM part (carefully cleaned, and re-painted to be period-correct) over that junk any day of the week.

There are a FEW good parts out there...but boy do they cost ya. I bought a NICE swiveling waterneck that is beautifully made, but it was something stupid like $150. :yikes: ARP fasteners are another nice upgrade that will slowly bankrupt you....

I feel your pain.

I have $1,200 in BBC ARP fasteners in my toolbox.
They were supposed to go in here, but they'll end up in whatever BB gets the Turbo. :deal:

Yea.

I bought a Spectre "vac line dressup kit".... It was the cheapest one Spectre makes.
I ONLY bought it to see the quality... Annnnnnd, it was terrible.

Although... Spectre's Throttle Cable Bracket assembly is pretty nice.
The hardware was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, meaning: The screws didn't thread onto the nuts.
Not one of them.. :haha:

*not that I would trust my throttle geometry to Chinese hardware, either way.*

My valve breathers, and water neck, are Mr. Gasket (brand).
Not the cheapest, nor the most $$$, but they look good, are USA, and have good reviews.

My power steering bracket was $75, through Alan Grove Components.
I hear they have FANTASTIC stuff. :D

The alternator brackets were through somebody else.
Don't remember.
But they weren't 'cheap', either.

Impatiently waiting for UPS, FedEx, and the Mail-man... :woot:

I might add: All three of which, are happy I switched Hobbies... :haha:

Sick....

My $30 alternator bracket, listed as for BBC 68-72, is ACTUALLY a 68-69 BBC CAMARO bracket.
That needs to bolt to a location, only on SS car intakes. :doah:

Cool... Chalk another part up, to bad labeling. :waytogo:

Anyhow... I'm gonna go install my manual choke.
Before I snap...

Should have a bunch of stickers showing up today, too... :D
NO STICKERS WILL BE VISIBLE FROM THE EXTERIOR.
All my 'sponsor' stickers are under the lids of my toolbox.

I'm gonna put some funny ones under the hood.
To mock the JDM idiots.

Take some good pics of the choke install please I would like to see that.

Why wouldn't the alternator bracket work... all the intakes bolt on the same don't they?? And why did you need them? Where they missing when you got the truck?

Sure thing, on the choke. :D

The ONLY brackets that came with the truck were the Throttle Cable, and the A/C.
And, I didn't use the factory Throttle bracket. :haha:

The Alternator bracket's upper-bolt,
is designed to bolt to the front of the 68-69 SS Camaro intake.
It's a bolt location that's NON-existent on my intake.

It's in the front, not the sides... Also, it's a driver side bracket, not the passenger.

Also, the LOWER bracket should fit right.
Because the blocks are all the same.
The top part that I need, is apparently just a $15 peice of arced steel.

So, I ordered it... :D

All pre 75 Chevy I've owned car or truck had the alt on right side of engine. Although I've never had a big block I'm sure it is close to the same or the exact same bracket. I've only had one that didn't have that arced steel piece to adjust the tightness of the belt. That I believe was a transplant from a mid 80s caprice with a 305. That was a one piece bracket and a 60 amp alt.

Im getting excited to see this thing haul! burnout
I'm soooo close. :deal:

This truck had the A/c pump on the right, and "generator" on the left.
Just how it was made.

I don't feel like messing with AC hoses... So, factory location it is! :D
