New Here and can't seem to post anywhere else, Looking for a little help.

Nice holier-than-thou sermon.
Oh, man, I hope you are kidding.
Seriously, I did not want to come off that way.

I have run into folks like this guy before. We are going to have to lead him along slowly and tell him every step until he gets up to speed.
Once he does, it will be fine. But right now, he does not know if he pulls the driveshaft out in park that the car can roll.

I grabbed a guy's legs and snatched him out from under his Pontiac because he was using his head as a chock and did not know it.

He had backed the car up a short steep hill to give him clearance to get to his driveshaft.

He put the car in park, took the straps off the back joint and had just borrowed a screwdriver from me so he could prise the cross out of the yoke.
He said he could not figure out why it was so tight.

When I walked up, he had his head jammed in front of the back tire, and was cussing because the screwdriver was not getting the job done.

He had no idea that the whole weight of the car was on that joint.

I have no idea what would have happened if he had managed to pop it loose, but it would not have been good.

Right now, everybody is using terms that they are all familiar with, but he is not.

Dana 44, not a clue.

Can Can gave him a good clue as to his vibration, driveshaft angle, but he will not have any idea what that means or how to fix it.

Confusing him is not too bad.
Suggesting that he do something without giving him the steps and assuming that he knows how to do it safely is.

If I came off as being critical of you or anyone here, I apologize.
What all of you are telling him is fine, just remember he does not know any better yet.

You could tell him as a joke to test his battery by touching a 10 gauge wire across the terminals, and he would do it.

I did that to a friend's kid brother one time when I was young and stupid.
He still has a slight scar on both hands to this day where the wire melted in his hand.

So again I apologize, I am just trying to get everybody to realize that we have to do a lot of explaining until he gets up to speed.
Won't take long.

Bryce, one thing worries me a little. You said you replaced your valve cover gaskets, and found lots of cigarette butts and cartridges in there.

I am pretty sure we have a miscommunication here.

Valve covers are on top of your engine. Its not really common to find that kind of stuff under them.

Mostly oil, usually some sludge, and lots of clicky moving things. I think you replaced something under the dash, right?

In a truck that old, whatever you replaced probably needed it, but I doubt it helped your oil leak.
I will try to post a picture showing your valve covers in a little while.

I say you got a good deal for 500.00, keep reading and asking questions, you will do fine. I started working on cars and trucks when I was 15, I`m 41 now and I still learn sumething new every day. Is`nt the computer great. HAVE FUN!!

:haha:

I think they were meant as two seperate statements, as in, I changed the valve cover gaskets and then I cleaned the interior of the truck. But you can never tell.:D

HAHA thanks guys.

I'm not a complete dumbass. not that you were saying I am, but still. I've always BLOCKED the wheels with anything I've done. there weren't butts inthe vavles rather the whole interior, YES i know that when you take the drive shaft out the car rolls, any where it wants to.

I find allthis information very helpful, as does my dad, more or less a touching up for him.

It's just that most of these parts and area's are completely different then my 98 Jetta I just sold. And believe me I've worked on cars with my dad (92 Subaru, 94 Honda, 92 Pathfinder, (96 Ford Ranger, 98 VW, 2010 Subaru) and now my 85 Blazer.
Things are just a little different is all. Nothing a little research on the internet can't fix. which is what I often refure to, along with the haynes Manual....

But thanks to all for the help and slow going.
Really appreiacted!

Bryce

yep, that should do it.
Sounds like he knows, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks

I'm thinking your vibes are coming from your rear driveshaft angles.........

One other possibility to throw into the mix... I know it sounds stupid, but... While I was pulling my wheels to sand, wash and paint the rims... I realized not a one of them had any weights on them, that might account for why I had highway shimmy at 40 until 45 mph. :-)

Balanced or unbalanced tires could cause what "feels" like driveline vibrations.

HTH,
Andrew

Well i dont know if they're supposed to at all but.......
None of my rims are weighted.... which i found initially strange....

but even better I think i fixed the problem. Gave her a good bath after mudding her up at the local "HOLE", Noticed one lug on the front left was missing and one onthe right rear was missing. Definitly a possibility! DUOOHHH :doah:hahaha will post pictures of recent worklater today.

I have a theory as to why there is all this old drivetrain stuff in your 85 Blazer...

My thought is that the frame, engine, trans (even if swapped at one time), transfer case, and axles are all from one older truck. And at some point someone replaced the body with an 85. Maybe the original was rolled or rusted out, who knows. It's also possible that someone just swapped on the newer nose and changed out the VIN plate for whatever reason.

It doesn't really matter what year the truck is, what IS important is knowing what parts you have in there. This will be helpfull in future parts replacement or repairs. Getting us pics of the front and rear axle diff covers we can tell you what you have there.

Other than that, good lookin truck! I dig the retro paint thing you have there.

man this truck is crazy, its got the later modle hooks on the frame, but has old style badges in the new location.

I didn't see the answer to what is the tie rod betweent the Pitman arm and the steering arm at the axle? in this thread so I will say that is called a drag link (Drag arm the mechanic told you)

Seemed to have found the reason for the oil leak.... found this nifty little plug/sensor in the valve cover dangling right next to one of the valves/.......
