One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Looking good, bending 2"1/4" thick I am guessing you have hydraulic conversion for your bender ? How much do you think those sliders weigh ?

I can’t bend 2x.250, and these only use that size for the primary rail, which is straight. If I need to bend big junk like that, I head over to tribe and borrow their bender. The kickers are 1-5/8x.134. But these are heavy. Probably 60lbs a piece before the trussing, which is lighter than Rev0 by about 15ish lbs.

But I’ll defer to @AugustDiesel for the exact numbers on the prior hernia inducing design.

I know it takes two full grown 6’4” men to get them in place and a pair of 2 ton jack stands to hold them in place, while being installed.

And FYI, my current set of 40s will soon be available:

I’ll have them swapped around in a week or two.

Oh so tempting

Rails are capped, and these are actually half painted now.

These ends are actually pretty tricky. The root pass is surprisingly low amps with a fast filler feed, and gas runs away from the puddle. The cap is a smidge easier, but still the same problems, only less so.

Paint, mount, and so on.

Looks like it's nice and tight to the rockers. The picture from further back looks like it's almost touching the rocker. Makes it more subtle, I like it. :waytogo:

It’s cozy - about 3/4” from the pinch. I reckon that’s enough gap to allow for some flex, but not so large that it looks awkward and disproportionate.
