It's cold outside, but the Dearborn heater is keeping the shop at a toasty 54. I've opened up this 5 lb sack, and will see how 10 lbs might.

Sorry for the crap photos, but things are a bit cramped with the doors closed.

First off, let me say that this thing is big; real big. It would probably clear the factory 34" diesel radiator, but the Ron Davis tanks or just a fuzz wider than normal. I think I can just move The outlet over 1" and get the clearance needed. It's also about 2"-3" too tall, so it'll get cut down just a bit.

I've kept the radiator and cooling circuit intact, so that I can still maneuver the truck through the project, but I can't see a way to do good work modifying the core support without removing it from the truck.

It is a tight fit. Are you going to try and install it on the forward facing side of the core support? I put mine where the old a/c condenser lived.

I moved my new condenser to the front side a of the core support. I had to remove the little stamped support piece that goes right in the middle. I made up a new one out of 3/8x1 flat bar and bent it so it hugs real close to the intercooler and it holds the condenser too.

It's hard but it's doable without removing the support from the truck. I left it in mostly to keep it from collapsing if I removed too much from it.

Same plan. I pulled the AC condenser, and with some trimming, the intercooler will occupy its former residence. Appreciate the tips.

The real challenge will be finding new homes for the trans and oil coolers. They're not small.

Ok, found my pictures from my install. Here's the core support all ready to go. I had to remove the box structure that goes over the mounting bolts for the support. The bars that hold the intercooler in place take the place of the now missing box supports.

I came up with an interesting solution to where to put my oil cooler. I put it under the core support between the frame rails. I built a mounting bracket/skidplate that holds the cooler and a small fan.



Here it is without the bumper on.


And here with the bumper back on.


I've changed to a plate style cooler since that photo was taken and it holds temp pretty good. Temp gauge is on the inlet and it gets up 200. The fan sensor is on the cooler outlet and its set for 180 and it rarely comes on. I'llget a better picture of how sits tomorrow.
 
It's clear the core support hardware has not turned in the past 30 years.

Core support is out, and the truck still motivates on its own, thus maintaining the space for the wife's car.

No, the truck is not going on a diet, but I did cut out the inner bracing off the core support. I am also reminded how much I really don't care for drilling out spot welds with the broach cutter. The Charger's steel cut smooth and easy; not the Suburban's.

Needed a payoff for the night, and aside from height and outlet configuration, that's pretty much how I see it sitting:

The inlet is at the same level as the turbo (Banks manifold), and with the batteries out back, there's plenty of room for the outlet to snake up toward the intake.

It went okay, nothing too dramatic. I actually had a good bit of fun assembling the pressure treated 2x6 core support, multi-cam 550 paracord radiator forward stabilization guy wire, zip-tie oil cooler suspension system, quick grip body mounts, and bungee hood retention armature.

It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Trimming down the intercooler, I'm reminded of a scene at the end of the movie, Hannibal. A (mostly) full weekend of progress awaits.
