One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

looks like your nut is missing on that body mount....

Just a quick status report on the new injector - running great with a noticeable improvement in low end torque and a sharp decrease in turbo lag. All I can guess is that the old set wasn't spraying cleanly or popping at the intended pressure of 2150psi.

I still have a light haze at the start of cold idle, but that also coincides with my currently non-functional cold advance, so I need to dig into that.

The suburban turns 32 today, and in recognition of that milestone, here's a photo from the summer of 2000. The 300,000 mile original 6.2L is out, and we're getting ready to stab the freshly rebuilt M998 engine.

I worked in a (very hot) uniform warehouse that summer stocking product, filling orders, driving a delivery truck, cleaning bathrooms, and answering phones. I saved all my minimum wage dollars to pay for the 6.2L engine build and install. My dad fronted me for the machine work, bearings, pistons, and gear drive, so half of what I saved went to paying him back, and the other half was burned elsewhere on the truck. Years on, I still spend a good chunk of my side work money on this truck.

Finally got around to making some throttle bracket adjustments and do some maintenance on the cold advance and high idle circuit.

Now that the coolant exits the crossover toward the passenger side, my super compact throttle bracket has a lot more room to work with. Specifically, I wanted to relocate the return spring and get the high idle solenoid more in line with the throttle.

First, testing the newly replaced temperature interrupt switch. It's somewhat inconvenient to access down behind #8, but not terrible. I used O'Reilly's WT7266 - same switch used for the glowplug side, 125F interrupt. IMG_0266.JPG

Continuity confirmed.

I've been tinkering with this bracket since 2005, making small adjustments as the engine setup evolves. The factory double throttle spring is now decent stretched, and I may interchange with others, experimenting with the feel of the food feed.

Final function test will have to wait until morning when everything is cooler. Meanwhile, I've had a liquid-filled fuel pressure gauge in stock for a few weeks, and finally remembered to install.

Not a super hot update; just catching up on small tasks that I've been putting off.

I was unloading tools last week into the new place and saw the Snap On injector socket in there. I've never owned a 6.2

Made me think of this place though

David, do you know at what temperature the stock temp switch flips?

Well if you find it bring it to blazer bash. I'll give you.........um.........well I'll probably have to give you money for it.

Of course snap on I might not be able to afford it

I didn't need/want/have a use for that thing ever. Now I can't find it again it irritates me.
