Making hoses and routing wiring. There’s a lot to do for first fire, but we’re close.

The fuel system Is hose clamp free after the lift pump.

You’re telegraphing my moves. Running it without an intake makes checking fuel leaks really easy.

I was working with an field engineer from GEP on some post office trucks and when he fired one up without the intake on it my mind just about went off the rails.

Being a gas guy I couldn’t wrap my head around the lack of a throttle and that it didn’t need the intake installed. Sounds way different that way too.
 
There’s a ton of reassembly to do. Then, get a few heat cycles on it, break in the rings, drive it, change the oil, load it on a trailer, drive to Moab, and crash EJS.

So far, green across the board. We ran it for about a minute, but with no coolant, we had to move on pretty quickly to buttoning things up and getting water in the block. There’s still some air to purge, and I think we’re running in maybe 6-1/2 cylinders right now.

But, we’re leak-free and moving on to all the bolt on stuff, and there’s a bunch of it.

It’s definitely a weight lifted. Looking forward to seating the rings with a few throttle ups.

Rewinding a bit, here are a few detail photos of the intake porting. It all blends down about 1.5-2”, but is basically just a really good gasket match. The intake manifold is just a smidge smaller. The dude that ported this does a bunch of circle track builds, and that’s exactly how he setup this hunk of junk.

The biggest thing to worry about with port matching, is that the port on the heads not be smaller than the one on the intake
Re: a step down against the flow direction can cause a reversion of the airflow
(same with exhaust pipe/header and the exhaust port)
 
It’s mostly together. To do:
- repair intercooler top plate
- weld -4 return for steam lines
- finish accessories - PS, AC, 2nd Alt
- mount core support
- populate core support with stuff
- make engine oil lines
- make trans oil lines
- reconnect PS stuff
- test run with coolant, full heat cycle
- mount bumper
- install coilovers
- install splash shields
- install intake stuff
- final electrical route and zip tie
- adjust bump strike plate
- magnum expansion tank install
- fill cases
- load base 4L80 shift program
- drive it
- change oil and full flow filter
- put it on a trailer
- go to Moab
