One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

I have 6x9 speaker hole in my right rear door, I want to expand it into a rectangle, with a plastic box that dips down inside the door. Atm I keep tie down straps in there I used to keep the barn doors from slamming shut in the wind

I use that hole to access the door release mechanism from the inside. Very useful when camping inside, and that's why I've never wanted to replace the missing door card.

I could rig up a proper door handle, but this system has worked so well that I haven't felt the need.

Why are you bootlegging Ranier in the land of Shiner?

Are you going to try to hinge those, so you can access inside the door for storage? Seems like a lot of rework, when you just got finished, but I am not sure that has ever stopped you before.

Especially from Utah, this is the place we bootleg to not from! Lol

I typically carry Coors on most trips due to the whole quantity vs quality argument so I usually have East bound and down running through my head. My house is 5 minutes from the brewery in Golden so it’s by nature to go with it.

I have exotic tastes, or a soft spot for mediocre beer. Shiner is what we serve when guests are over.

This is only one part of why we get along so well.

Also, had an easy couple of days with the truck. After three years off from our standard spring wheeling trip, it was good to get back together with friends and enjoy a weekend of light wheeling in the hill country.

We went to hidden falls not far outside of Austin. It’s a bunch of limestone trails with great views, and the drive to and around was another great way to put about 600 miles on the new power plant.

It’s not a party with Kurt and his tractor.

Lots of tight cedar trails.

Beautiful vistas.

Play jeep games, win jeep prizes. I’ve “fixed” this problem before.

We had a pretty nice little lighting show to our south.

And my dad even took the wheel and enjoyed some double low action.

Solid weekend.

Time to change the oil and get ready for a massive drive out to the PNW.

Hidden falls is a gorgeous place. Would have been interesting to see a burb do some of those trails. It's tight with the blazer. One trail the entire thing is barely the width of my truck and it's lined by slick walls and trees so there's no going around. I always laugh at people that are coming the wrong way when they encounter me. You can see the resignation in their eyes that it's going to be them backing up and not me haha.

That’s either No Name or Bronco Buster. No margin for error on either, and we did both. I have new cedar pinstripes to show it.

It’s gorgeous terrain, and perfect for a casual camp-based weekend.
