The Camaro steering wheel is going by by at some point.

If you want stock I have a Black first gen wheel here. It's the only first gen part I have...and could be yours for nothing.

I have that wheel and don't like it. It looks good, but, it has a 4" dish which puts it too close to me for comfort.
 
It's the one on the left. From left to right, 67-72...then early to late 80's...then 90's

Always nice to have a good stock wheel as a back-up at the very least.

My dad's 70 had that far left wheel. I learned to drive on that truck, that brings back a lot of memories. lol.

I don't really like the 100% stock wheel only because of it's enormous diameter. It definitely feels like you're driving a school bus and it takes a long time to wind & unwind that wheel to complete a turn.

In the past, I've used the Grant wood wheel (3-spoke like you've got pictured here) but with the wood grip. The wood trimmed wheels were "period correct" in some musclecars of that era (Camaro's, Corvettes) and were rosewood IIRC.... so I consider it to be an acceptable substitute for a "stock" restoration like mine! :) The main attraction is that the avoids a COMMON problem found in most aftermarket wheels. The 3-spoke design and placement won't block the view of the gauges. SO many steering wheels (4-spoke and even some 3-spoke) designs put the spokes in the upper hemisphere of the wheel, so your sightlines to the speedometer and fuel gauge are constantly blocked and you end up moving your head from side to side until you can finally catch a glimpse of the gauge. It's also around 14" - 14.5" diameter which gets rid of a lot of that "school bus" vibe, gives you a quicker turning ratio and makes it a little easier to climb into the truck without smacking your legs on the wheel.

The failing of the Grant wheel that I've been buying is that it has a deep-dish, which becomes a problem due to the limitations of the factory seat tracks. I'm not even tall, but I typically run the seat ALL-THE-WAY back to get a comfortable position relative to the pedals, and to get far enough from the steering wheel that I don't feel like I'm hunched over it. If I can find a wood rimed wheel that was either NO dish, or maybe something really small like 1".... I could find a comfortable arm position and maybe not run the seat quite so far back. :thinking:

I really wish that there was a factory style wheel in a 15". I know that a bunch of us would have them!
 
One suggestion is to do something similar to the tri-five chevy guys. After changing to modern power steering the bus sized wheels were not required for leverage, but were kept to look "stock". Same problem comes in with the steering wheel being in the way to get in and out besides sitting comfortably. Dwarf wheels started showing up. Originally guys were cutting the center's out of the stock wheels and putting them in a smaller diameter rim. Being plastic over a steel frame proved to be challenging to cut the plastic off the rim to allow welding of the spokes for a secure connection. Then epoxy was used to reform the rim and joint the plastic outer material of the spokes to the rim. They've become so popular the aftermarket has stepped in with quality smaller versions of stock wheels for 55-59 Chevy Cars. Here's an example 57 chevy wheel in a 14" diameter.
