RJFguitar's resto-mod - went offroad

Something like this would be ideal. Just something with a little "class".

Haha... good one.

Okay, now all kidding aside I need some serious opinions. :haha:

I want something short and wide to give it that right stance. I'm going to have to just keep waiting and watching CL, or wait out the guy in pic 1 with the 16.5x14 Mountain Crushers on fresh 33x15.50 SX's.

I think some wide Rallys would look sharp with those wide tires, but not sure what the options are for 8 lug. I am not a fan of the wheel wider than the tire either, but some 12" wide Super Singles would look good too. I definitely like the more classic wheel look. That's what is on my V3500 with 14.50 SSRs.

What Welds were on it before?

My somewhat Ideal setup is a set of 16.5x12 Super Singles or Outbacks with the 33x14.50 SSR, like what what you have. There is a set of 16.5x12 Typhoons on my local CL right now, but then buying a new set of SSR's puts me way over $2k, which is more than I wanted to spend right now.

But yes I agree, I like a tire/wheel where the actual tread width and rim width are the same.

Before? I had 16.5x14 Scorpios wrapped with 35x16 boggers before. That setup looked badass, but my boggers were getting worn down to about 50% and were in that really noisy stage and got tired of listening to them, plus all the power they rob. I sold them off and bought a set of 16x10 mountain crushers with 36x14.50 Trxus radials. I really liked them, but the rims were too narrow for me and I wanted to step down to a 33, I sold them about a month ago.

Glad to hear your fan issue turned out not to be a problem. Hopefully the gauge issue won't take too long either.

You could always just leave it like the pic above. Then it will look like wades jimmy mid-flight all the time.

I am on the fence about keeping these wheels after the tires wear out. The wide SSRs are $$$$ and aren't the optimal choice for towing/hauling although these have lasted longer than expected. Very little choice out there for 16.5 anymore especially for a 12" wide.

I do however love the wheel/tire combo on my truck.

Hey mister! Those need a polish job BAD.:D

Well, cross tires and wheels off the list.

Early this morning a local guy just down the road from me posted on CL a set of 16.5x12 Weld Typhoons on 35x14.50 SSR's. I wanted to step down to 33's, but I decided to take what I could get. The rims are super clean, no curb marks or bad tire guy install marks. All they need is a good polishing. The tires were made in 2013 and two of them are 90% tread and the other two are 65%. They were on a hot Dmax truck and something tells me thats why the back two are down a little further than the fronts.:doah: All in all I'm very happy with them, tires/rims/set of bullet caps for the rims all for $1700. I can't believe how much the 35" SSR's are compared to the 33's. A set of 33's are about 1600, and a set of 35's are like 2350. :eek1:

Well, if you like Alcoas, I did recently find the super odd ball 16" 10 lug alcoas for my F Super Duty. I have been searching for these for 2 years.

See, I can show some "class." :thumb:

Well those are better than the other two options you posted. I just hope YOU are happy :waytogo:

The ferd looks good on the alcoas!

looking good man. Looks like the kid is enjoying himself too. :)

Yes they do! I am on month 8 of a year long deployment so they'll get polished later this summer.

Those look good. Yes the 35s are ridiculous expensive! My 33s are down to like 25% and was considering buying the 35s and keeping my Welds. That price is hard to swallow though.

I just picked up an Edge Evolution CS used on Ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111633519543

I have an Edge Juice in my 01 Cummins Dodge, and a Bullydog PMT in my '06 Cummins Dodge. I find, that I naturally look at the programmer monitor's gauges before I look at the factory gauges, so I think this Evolution will work well for me in the K5, it's what I'm used to anyway. At this point, I'm thinking of just not even bothering with the factory coolant gauge, an actual precise number from the PCM data on the Edge monitor will be much more accurate anyway. A little power bump from it's programming won't hurt either. Sure, it's not EFI live, but for now it will work.

2 steps forward, 2 steps back.

1. Got my exhaust all welded up. Wow, sounds so good, and so much smoother than the old 406 ever was.

2. Got it all cleaned up really well and even waxed.

Now for the steps back....

1. That factory oil sensor on the back of the engine blew apart. I'm lucky I went down the street and back because it dumped out over a quart in about 1 minute, and coated the exhaust system. I pulled it out and tried filling it in with my stick welder ( ran out of gas on the mig doing the exhaust). It looks like it's still seeping around the threads. I think I am just going to get a plug as I don't want to tighten the old sensor any more, I may have caused warpage from the heat anyway. Anyone know what thread size it is?

2. The 6L wants to die at stop signs. Cruising down the road, then come to a stop and the idle drops way off and dies about half the time. I haven't pulled the codes yet.

The oil pressure sensor is 16x1.5, I used an oil pan drain plug to plug mine. It was a Dorman product, don't remember the p/n....

Thaaaank you. That should work.

Side note, my Edge Evolution should be here tomorrow, pretty excited!
