Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I'd like to see the first one with the lights parallel to the vertical instead of perpendicular to the top - so they'd be at a bit of an angle. But it might look funky from the side. I think you could do 5 lights instead of six and still have it look good with the grommets.

Where are you getting pricing from hect? Fazzios has the flush mount elongated ones like I have on my truck and they are $15 a piece. Thats half of what any other parts store wanted.

My point is maybe shop ebay because thats a lot of dough on lights lol.

I like the 1st and 3rd myself.

Of course a lot of what would make the 3rd look sweet is making them face straight back. You feeling up to making that happen in paper so we can see it? :)

working on the grommet look for #1, I'll add that look in too...

here's #2 with grommets.. it's tight.. looks cool, but real tight.. almost borderline for that end amber with the curve..

yeah, but not all led's are the same.. that's superbrightleds.. I've used them a bunch, super nice stuff..

did they have clear, amber and red? most average stuff you find are 10 led's..... these are 24's, 56's, etc... keep in mind, those #'s are for 12 lights, even at $15, it's some money..

the annoying ones are the white ones.. they cost way more than the red/amber for whatever reason...

and seriously, come on, I'm spending 5 g's in materials on this project, ya think I'm worried about $100? :haha:

I'm leaning towards #1.. gotta see with grommets, going down to do that now.. I'm also curios to see it on the angle as suggested too...

recessing for #3 will be the last resort mockup.. I want to try EVERY other config first.. it was a pain to put that piece in.. I will have to cannibalize it in and out to do it.. and it will take a little while.. I will, but it may not be till tomorrow, before it goes in the garbage can..

alrighty, down for more photos..

They didnt have the greatest selection at fazzios. It was pretty much those or round. They are insanely bright though. Not sure of the brand however.

As far as whites, I still havent gotten any reverse lights for the truck yet lol.

yeah, it will be a fair amount of work for sure. I just got thinking about it last night and in my minds eye it looks sweet so I wanted to see it. :D

yeah, most vehicles I've ever had don't have working reverse lights... they are there only as a token and legality... I definitely only want 1 tho... I like that 3, 2, 1 look..

ok, it's between these 2 IMO.. the proportions are just "right"...

but Fubeca may have nailed it , I'm really digging the angle one.. following that tube really looks pretty cool...

I like the angle. I was going to suggest earlier you match the angle to the angle of the tube against the tailgate opening.

So what size lights are those?

I think I may call winner winner chicken dinner on this one... I think that looks pretty badarse...

Ryoken obnoxious, yet proportionate! :pimp: :haha:

the whites are just 10 led jobbies.. but these are the amber/red ones.. should be bright as he!!....

oh, add $25 to that order for the grommets.. so about $185.... still cheaper than the 3 big ones per side.. I forgot, those wheren't $150, they where $200 for the set...

Another thought I had, is there a rhyme or reason to the ambers being on the outside instead of the brakes?

Check the videos at the bottom of the page on etrailer - they do a decent job of showing the lights too.

http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights/Optronics/STL22RB.html - the grommets and wiring harnesses might be cheaper at etrailer and their service is fantastic.

The 12 LED lights use a different LED chip, it is larger and brighter, then uses reflectors within the lense. They look pretty cool too because of the reflections. They are also super-bright.

it just makes sense to me...

also now that it was mentioned earlier, the whole "see it from the side because of the angle dangle" safety thought, really confirms it to me..

Mutt's getting in your lane yacka$$, out of the way!!! :woot: :haha:

Sounds like a good enough reason for me:haha:

It looks wrong to me with the amber on the outside, but I am just used to 1982-1992 Camaros.

they are bit longer, 6.5 vs 6... do you run these?

it does look better the other way.... color progressing..

maybe I'll sacrifice what I think is safer, for what looks better...
