Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I know what you mean. Stoked to do a real front bumper. Scared of smashing my front end on a stupid deer.

Like I said.... :thumb:

That is my number one reason for wanting a beefy front bumper. Always hella paranoid driving through the mountains at night! A big led bar and a nice front bumper would be tits! I have plans in my mind to build a copy of a warn classic bumper but do it out of like 1/4" plate or something. This way I would still have the classic look that I'm trying to maintain but with a stout bumper. I would really like a cattle catcher setup like ord's and muddysub but it would just throw the look off too much for what I'm going for.

Maybe I missed this. Where did you get the pad, and what did you use to dye it?

Also, are you going to do the bumper before the kennel? You've been waiting a while for a pup.

Josh

bought the pad used in here last yr for like a hundy... I run all SEM colorcoat for dye...

i wont be doing the kennel till next spring/summer... i should be/hopefully be getting Malachi at x-mas or jan...

I get TON's of grief for going thru a breeder and not a rescue.. I want a 10 week old, QUALITY pup to raise myself.. not someone else's mistake... I will NOT feel guilty about that...

after talking to Kathy, I know, she's all about the healthiest best dogs possible... every health test, precaution is taken, etc.. rescue dog's, not so much... I got her name thru the Westminster dog show.. the parents are both grand champions..

it won't be cheap.... the dog's run $1000 to $3000.. I'm not looking for show quality... I just want a healthy large dark male... pet quality is fine..

I have pick of the litter so hopefully a good candidate is there... I've kinda set a limit in my mind of 2 g's... I'd rather it be 1200 or 1500, but i'll spend 2 grand if need be...

and I wont bat an eye at that.. I spent 1300 on tool drawers.. 5 g's on materials for a tubebed.. :dunno: :screwy: this will be my best friend/companion for the next dozen yr's or so, seems silly to not make the best investment I can...

Shepherds and Dobies are very prone to several severe genetic maladies and I believe those breeds are really best going to only the finest breeders.

Some other dogs aren't as prone and is not quite as important.

Here is my front bumper I have been super happy with. 1/4" plate and 2" uprights and bars. I've never hit a deer but I have pushed many a boulder out of my way with it. Still need to add fog lights though.

nice... :waytogo:

I'll be doing similar x-tubing between the uprights.. but my whole lower will be tube with the center skid....

are your uprights 1/4" boxed, hollow in the middle?

I was thinking of doing an I beam type construction on my uprights like Kert did... but boxed would be "thicker" looking fo sure..

Nor should you feel guilty...there's nothing wrong with a purebred...I do think that there are issues when mixing certain breeds into hybrids which might not be healthy, but a German Shepherd is real breed that can reproduce in the wild.
I was looking at a pure breed Chartreux or British shorthair kitten from a breeder and it was $2000 I would do that if the right opportunity came up. My current cat is a beautiful stray.

Don`t sweat is about getting a purebred Shepard....I say that is a wise choice! :thumb:

Your build is quality top notch high end! So should be the Mutt! :waytogo:

I `m liking your front bumper plan too!

Have you given any thought to a seatbelt for the dog?

not a ton.. not really sure what I could do for him in the back with the space of a kennel.... it's not like it's a seat.... I guess you could do a harness and short leader to an eyelit or something to keep him down.. I just don't like the idea of restraining the dog.. he will have a nice big bed in there to hang out on.... but we all know how dogs are once moving.... there'll be screens on the windows for sure tho.... fresh air without the worry of stoooopid people....

my sis was a cat breeder, Turkish vans.. nasty cat! :haha:

I shared a house with her..... me and Raven.. and 50 cats upstairs... :doah: :haha:

the whole rescue guilt trip thing is mostly the chicks in my life, ex's, etc.. I get it, respect the he!! out of it, maybe a different scenario than this....

thanks bud..... :D it was what I thought a dog should be when I was 10 yr's old.... smartest dog I've ever met was a shepherd.... dog used to go to summer camp every yr! :pimp:

I think the bumper will work out perfect for the rig.. the alum skid will go with the whole Baja feel out back and bring some alum forward on the rig...... countersunk black allen's carried over, etc..

Yeah my uprights are 1/4" boxed. It is beefy.
