Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

My cab and chassis truck was a 2wd. Driving Daves crewcab before he came and got and having driven 4x4 crew cabs I can tell you the 2 wds turn alot tighter

Your garage floor looks good...I'd like to do mine with that flake stuff too...

my buddy Chris used the same stuff, and flaked it.. turned out real good.. but his garage was a bit smaller and WAY smoother too.. the flake looked good with the smooth finish......

it turns vastly superior than the push/pull it had... it's more the radius once locked... the price i'll pay to have the kennel... ;)

well... I can make as much moolah as my body can survive the next eleventy months/yrs...

so I'm thinking a repower in the spring/summer may be in order.. more than likely I'll hodge podge the induction for awhile... try to get it to run decent on the tbi, or just throw a merc setup in there for a bit... who needs an O2! :haha:

I'll get a tube order in over jan and feb, so i have it ready to get bending the bed in the spring... but money above and beyond that will go to a new long block...

Nope, Earliest you would find a 32 spline SM465 is 81 and I've parted out a few 81's that had 10 spline.

I am sorry but the 32 spline started in 85.
And Ryoken I have a couple here.
Figure a cheap way to ship and we can make a deal.

ok, cool, thanks Issaam, good to see ya back around... shipping would probably slaughter the deal.. but maybe i'll check into it... it's definitely down the list a bit, but it is something i want to check into.. thanks, i'll get back to ya..

as some remember, Mutt has had fuel pressure issues from day one... i finally broke down and put a walbro 255 in the main tank this morn.. tpi from an 89 z28.... straight up replacement sizing.. fuel pressure is a steady 13.7 psi now thru the rpm range.. and Mutt now runs like a scalded....... dog..... ;)

well, as much as it can with the tame heads and anemic bumpstick.. :(:shame: but before it would fall on it's face if ya put the coals to her and the psi would drop off...

i'm tempted to throw one in the other tank and rectify it's issues too.. it'd be nice to have the 36 gal capacity, even if only till next summer... might be worth it for another $120... heck, i can always keep the extra pump for a spare on the custom single tank...

the other thing is, the saddle tanks do not in any way effect the construction of the tubebed, only the future hanging toolboxes under it... so i can fully complete the bed fab, and add the custom tank at any time after that, running on the saddles..

LOL see there you go ,that would explain why the 81's I've parted out had 10-splines 32 spline with a 208 started in 81 though :D

That is not true unless you are only talking one tons.

The one tons started using the 32 spline output SM465 with the NP205 in 1985, the half and three quarter tons started using it with the NP208 in 1981.

Only the one tons used the 10 spline short output shaft SM465 after 1980 (YellowK20 claims to have seen a 1981 with it, I can't say that he hasn't). I used a 1982 K10 for a donor in a 1985 K10 and it definitely had the 32 spline output.

We parted out 3 81 crew cabs that had 10-spline combos all diesels . SledheadAK can verify .

All NP 208/241C's have either 32 ( TH400/4L80E/SM465 )or 27 spline (TH700R4) I've heard rumors of the TH350 being factory mated to a NP208 but I've yet to see one in person EDIT: then there is the 833 O/D 4-speed very very rare only seen two 4x4 versions not sure on spline count as I never separated them but I would guess 27 spline.

off topic a bit, but there was also the 3-spd column ripper in a 4wd configuration in front of a NP205 in the 73-80 trucks I have one of these combos in a bogger project that I stopped progress on when I left New Mexico

Everybody always talks about how interchangeable GM stuff is, trans and t-case combos is definitely not one of them what a royal pain in the dick

I guess I should have specified with the 205.
Yeah 81 introduced the 208 which did get a 32 spline 465.
That's what you get when you skim through a post and answer.
:p

Yeah, they were one tons, right? My 1982 K30 3+3 has the 10 spline, I've had to replace the coupler. The SM465/NP205 didn't use the 32 spline setup until 1985, the same year the hydraulic clutch setup debuted.

I have cut up a factory TH350/NP208. Most of the TH350/NP208 combos I've come across were aftermarket with the spacer.

This I have never seen sadly. There are not a lot of manual transmission in Nebraska for some reason.

I have always thought this as well. GM really dropped the ball on this one.

I almost bought a 81 that had a 305, th350/208 in it. Trying to remember why I didnt now. probably the 305.

All the th350/208's ive seen had the adapter and started life as 700R4 trucks Id be interestes to see a factory setup.

81-85 all 1/2 ton pickups (except california trucks) had 305s 350 was not an option for them. K5's and 1/2 ton burbs how ever could get the 350

Ryoken's question of the day....

how whacked are ya when ya take a brand new grill and sand and paint it? :haha:

100_0055_zps7b93de20.jpg

I'm gonna start out by leaving the charcoal, and paint the chrome satin black..

not 100% on what I'm gonna do with the emblem... my initial reaction is to douche the whole thing in Ryoken red... inner red plastic and outer chrome trim...

but then I'm thinking maybe that one splash of chrome around the letters in Ryoken red... so... for now, I'm gonna paint the grill and install it with the GMC emblem stock red and chrome.. than decide what I want to do..

I'm hoping that it's gonna look sick leaving the charcoal with the black... just that slight contrast.... if not, i can always go to all black..

also got door parts today too...

For anyone else...karaaazy....:eek1:

For you....we'd expect no less...

however, it occurs to me that the ideal time to paint a grill would be when it is new
