Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

oh, and Chief, while I had it back apart, I did a 5 minute polish on the turn lenses with a bit of compound on a rag... they definitely look a lot better.. maybe i'll wheel em at some point..

I do need to take it back apart at some point and change out a few of the clips/hardware, maybe than.. or maybe I'll pop for the $65.

I got some of that plastic polish or Swirl-X...I just wish I had a good bench grinder and a good polishing wheel....getting stir crazy...can't get this thing painted...lot's of little stuff to be done...door handles, vent window, door panels...lenses...bezels...I just didn't feel like doing that today...I am ready to get the painting over with....I hate to do it but if this guy doesn't answer me back soon I may just go to the dreaded Maaco....

I thought there was 2 different potential painters for that thing ya talked to? gotta be a local shop that'll do a decent job... how much, is the question..

yeah, you can actually wetsand and polish lenses, I've done it on occasion... standard compounds, polishes work fine....

it was nice getting my door back together somewhat.. at least it sounds solid when ya close it now and the window tracks decent... still needs a bit of work.. but I'm gonna make custom insert panels out of composite to install before I go back in it.. and i haven't even done the felt's, door panel on the ps yet....

wanna add some sound deadener when i go back in too...

You just hit on something I have been considering....I want to use a sound insulator inside my doors....what are you going to put in there?

Everybody says that there is something you can buy at the big box hardware stores that works well....but being asphalt based does that make it a hazard or not?

yeah, I've asked this question here a few times... heck, I may have earlier in this thread.. :haha:

Dynamat's the big name stick on... and yeah, i do remember talk of roofing sh*t being used...

the other option is what I'd like to do, spray in, like Lizard Skin... our doors are not known for their watertight properties, I figure the spray on will be more durable..

eh, there's another $250 or so... :doah: :haha:

There is...the guy I can never contact and the other guy just has a barn...the guy I can't get hold of has a real shop with room to house the vehicle inside.

The other guy doesn't...it's one car at a time and mine would have to stay in there until he finished both colors....I am still considering him but I don't like his "security" issues...not sure I could sleep knowing it isn't locked up somewhere.

and you bring up a good point...when I was looking before, I couldn't drive it...now I can drive it to some other places and let them see it for an accurate estimate.

What worries me about the guy with the barn is it is a cash deal and if I leave it....I'll have no paperwork showing I left it or anything...just a deal...if he falls in the thinner vat and dies I could be crap out of luck in getting my Blazer back...
The other guy does it on the down low also but he has other people in his shop...
Maybe I should just take it to a real place that gives you paperwork and take credit cards? :dunno:

Can you brush in Lizard skin? I won't be able to spray stuff in there without ruining everything with overspray....

I would think you could brush the lizard skin if need be, tho obviously it would be a way different look.. but hey, in a door.... cuz yeah, it would be preferable not to get that in tracks, regulator, etc... tho gutting our doors only takes about 15 minutes! :haha:

I would nut up, save the needed money and have a pro do it... you've done an outstanding foundation it should get something relative quality on it...

I would figure a decent shop would shoot that for 3g's plus materials..

Grill looks SOOOO much better that way paul. :thumb: I didnt much like it in the glossy.

so..... looked at LMC, etc..... the velour insert piece, and upper alum panel behind the pulls are stupid expensive...

actually the armrest are stupid money too.. but mine are ok dyed..

I'm gonna make both the velour insert piece and the panel behind the pull out of composite... so hard smooth fiberglass..

I'm thinking I'll do the velour panel one in the same SEM black as the door panel.. than I was thinking I''d carry over the same charcoal from the grill to the long upper inserts, than maybe black pulls....

I just had my upholstery guy just sew me up new inserts. And I bought nos insert panel(twice as much) behind the pull straps because the one from LMC don't match and look real cheap for what they cost, sent them back they were so bad for the money.
I do have the old ones if you want them.

where can you get NOS?

I'd love to just bolt in all new stock stuff there.. new black velour insert, than an NOS pull trim... but i really don't wanna spend $200 just for that convenience when I can make em for free...

I'm not pressed on it anyway, it functions.....

im dreading doing my interior. Id like to ditch the blue for black and I can already feel my wallet getting lighter :doah:

yeah, the maroon HAS to go...

it'll be mainly black with a bit of Ryoken red and gray/silver here and there...

I also forgot that I'm doing a flat composite panel at the bottom too, for the 6 x 9 to mount.. so most of that red will be covered too...

When is the paint scheduled for the aft half of the cab???? Its driving me nuts! Your Mutt is too damn cool for the two tone thing happenin here :doah:

eh, realistically it probably wont be till spring/early summer at this point... too cold now...

it's the fact everything is getting stripped, zinc'd, yada.... for as fast and expedient as I can be, it's still enough work, materials, processes, etc to make it a small step gig..... and the tube bed is a more pressing matter too...

actually, the next updates you should be seeing from me will be in my coughotherbuildthreadcough....

thanks Rob... :D

this pic is crazy... it really shows what sun can do to a color.. check fender/door compared to the hood... :eek1: :haha:
