Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Paul, what type of goosenecks do you plan on pulling? Open or enclosed or both?

Just wondered if an enclosed would interfere with things, or if that was out of the pic anyway?

I figure something like this...

not a deckover... not sure on length... 24?

annoying life getting in the way of priorities... :doah:

I'm kinda chompin at the bit...

gonna be a nutty Lab yr this year! :woot: :haha:

actually, I've been working on the K5 a bit.. dash stuff.. Mutt is just in a planning/design stage... hopefully I'll have a pile of tube on the floor come april 1st...

I've actually already started tweaking the upper tube design... trying to give it a similar feel as the K5 has in the back... but the side toolbox 2 tube area is set.. taper in at the back...

Kert just traded in his deckover for a conventional...not sure but I think his is 24 w/ beavertail. Mine is 20 and is enough for the Maiden to go on, but seems like a larger than needed proportion of tongue weight on it (tag along hitch)

well.. you know where this is headed.. if I have it my way, it'll have a Cummin's in it at some point...

but that's WAY down the road... wouldn't get to that for 5 yr's prolly..

just scribblesh*t till I outlined what I liked in blue...

gonna have a little tube tailgate.... the yellow on the back is the winch slot...

I'd like to see it from the side....do you like your angles up front yet?

Davegood_rear_3_quarter.jpg

I know this is a roll bar, but I have always liked the symmetry on this...the main bar matches the windshield outline and I like the way the support bars come straight back and then down

I don't know how much your bed sides stick out from the rear cab though...

I love your "fence railing" on top of the bed tubing...that's cool..

this was so I could get a visual of the tapers in the back.. cuz its got 2 angles going on...

and yeah, that's basically how the upper hoop bars will be.. main angle one from about 2/3rd's to the back.. just a slight turn at each end after the bend, so it has just a bit of vertical for the low small diamter fence to tie into... than angles to the middle, from the middle. and a tie bar between those for the spare tire...

working on another that shows the fuel tank...

I'm really digging on the dual angle in back.. I didn't want it straight up and down like the balsa stage is now...

the only issue at this point is, exactly what i'll do with the taillights.. I actually considered doing a semi-full red lexan panel there.. do the panel in alum, than cut out a window in it, leaving an inch or so border, than the middle fitted with lexan, rubber windshield-like gasket around it..

but I have to see how the whole angle dangle thing will work... I originally thought I might carry a bit of flat out by the tailgate corner and just run a single 6" rectangular one on either side of the tailgate, before it tapers out to the corner.. or cut flush sections on that panel for the lights to fit in/mount...but I just gotta eyeball all that when it's coming together...

during fab, i'll just have the jeepy ones I run now on an angle iron that my flaps will be attached to... clamp it to the rails, plug the wires in. drive to work... :pimp: come home, reverse...

I don't know if there are DOT rules or not, but have you considered LED bars behind those lexan tail light panels?

I hope you don't paint it 27 different colors

But for real, I like the design, cant wait to see what you do with actually making it real :waytogo:

I hope you make the b pillar more smooth than just an angle, and blend it with the body line.

just doing it straight in paint is torturous... :haha:

trust me, that's just to get the right ideas in my head...

that's how the front eyebrows on my K5 bumper where...

looked like poo... :haha:

poifect... :woot:

oh, ftr.. here's the numbers.. everything in orange is 2"... including the dark blue of the gate and the 4 front to back lengths that make the center footwell section with the fuel tank and gooseneck......

angledangle2_zpsb5b33ebe.jpg

the baby blue will be 1.5".. including the lower boxes there..

the white handrail, I'm not 100* what i'll use... originally I thought I'd run 1.5.. but that seems a bit bulky.. especially for something to hook onto...

so I'm leaning towards 3/4 or 1" solid bar...

thanks... :D

should work well as a tow/service rig.. heck, maybe i'll even throw the York in it... :pimp:

I think the drawer storage surrounded by tube thing should look pretty neat... and I wanted those units to be real nice... good partitions, slides, etc.. like a mobile KRL!!! ;)

for now, I'm leaning towards the top flat "shelf" area that becomes the top of the drawer units, behind the fence, I'm gonna do that in the smooth 1/4 alum.. and also the side walls, of the footwell area that's in the back 1/2 by the tailgate in smooth...

but I'm thinking of doing the very bottom, that hides the gooseneck and winch, from the tank back, in diamond plate... that's where your gonna be standing... and with the tailgate, you wont notice that much...
