Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

oh, took Mutt for it's first high speed extended parkway run this morn...

ran it around 75 to 80 for about 15 miles.. does real well... x-over is sick, truck tracks awesome, and pretty damn smooth...

but I do think I am, at some point, later in the summer, gonna take the 25 mile ride up to my psycho tire guy to have him go thru the rubber.... I'm actually wondering if he can speed balance a 37.. 36.5"...

or if we're forced to run Equal, etc and rebead em.. I'll be impressed if he thinks he can bead em up without fire...

my spare has a stoooopid slow leak.. every 2 or 3 weeks, I'm finding it down at 15 or so.. think it's the bead, probably could use a coat of goop... I hammered the bead on that one with my snappy prybars... it was tight, ripped it up pretty good... :doah:

I'd actually like to pick up another 4 90/95% tires by sept/oct as backup schtuff for the next 3 to 5 yr's, to have "on call"....

Dude, you so need to cut a gun port in that thing, buy yourself a midget with a rifle, stuff him in there to take care of those damn tailgaters out in NJ. :pimp:

That's my idea today, for ya. :waytogo:

Besides that, it looks bitchen. :thumb:

I think Mutt could ROCK a Ma Deuce.... :saweet: :weapon39:

midget on the roof, spinning that b*tch! :woot:

picture it with the lower boxes in the same tube/panel/latch construction... :eek1:

Mutt's a design animal, can't be contained...

oh, and.... I swear it's ghey, :doah: but I'm gonna really try to make sure this circus wagon is "entered" or whatever in the fall Ocean Gate Car Show... sept iirc.. I'm just beyond curious as to what the reaction will be... :haha:  :haha:

can I beat a poifict 69 maro in the "cool build" category??? :pimp:  :saweet::saweet:

and on that note.. I actually thought today about how the rig looks it's absolute best..

the al panels, can ALWAYS use a nice wet block 400 wetsand in the rig's front to back grain to look, their best.. but to make the rig it's absolute killer/best bling, I could actually be pulling each showed panel, and wet blocking it out to perfection and reinstalling...

we'll see how much time I have.. :haha:

so far raw has working out damn well... 3M maroon scuff pad every 2, 3 week wash, keeps it all looking great... and pretty maintenance friendly for a work rig...

If not, my shop can balance them. They did the 37x13.5 procomps i had on the blazer.

I had a good experience fixing a highway road vibration with a "road force" balance. Basically matches the stiffest part of the sidewall with the lowest spot on the rim...the end result is you don't get as much "hop" transmitted by the low spot since the stiff sidewall helps to mask it.

Not sure what the tire size limit is on those Hunter-type machines but it might be worth checking out if you intend to run a lot of highway miles.

to be honest, I'm VERY pleased with the Baja's so far... no noisier really than my KM2's....

and for no balancing, it's relatively smooth at 80.... but yeah, it does have a hint of hop/bounce I'd like to tweak out of the rig...

I road force balanced my 39.5's when I still worked at Goodyear... Didn't fit real well, but it fit.

The other nice "side effect" of doing road force balancing is that you end up using far fewer balance weights than you might otherwise need. Sometimes on big tires you will see a guy with 2LBs worth of hammer-on weights stuck to the wheel trying to get it to run smooth.... :eek1:

This is what I notice on just 33's or 34's. They throw a lot a weight on them to make them close to being balanced.

ok, o-pine-yuns from the brethren palease... got a couple days to figure this out..

started shaping the upper frame tonight..... and gonna start on the recessed boxes later in the week..

but I'm gonna have to cut for the gas doors soon..

trying to get max gas, and keep the doghouse below window height, I need to run the doors all the way at the top...

so, initially I just figured I'd cut the opening distance on top in 1/2 and center the door there..

but than once I put it up there, I thought it might look better with equal, tight spacing, top and front.....

this is strictly an exterior "which looks better" deal.. :ears::ears:

it won't affect the inside hoses in any significant way...

tho looking at that tonight... gonna have to keep the whole opening up there tight, compact and well routed... not a TON of room for everything... it's basically a window 30" x 12"... tho there is a fair bit more under the frame in the rear where the slope is.. the tank is actually about 1/2 way up that panel....

ok, that actually does help the hoses a tad....

final measurements are in... outside dimesions of the tank say 63 gallons... I'm figuring around 3 gals for wall thickness, baffling and such...

so it should be right around 60 gals or so.... cool #........ :pimp:

Just to throw a wrench into it, I prefer it lined up tight to both edges. I think I would like it back if there was an equal amount of space above it, but that would cut down on fuel cap. It one way makes plumbing easier, go w/ it. Function>form.

the looks override the plumbing... I can work around that.....

hmmmm, poll? :dunno: :haha:

oh, the other option too, would be to give it a 1/2" on top, and on the right side too... I can't drop the tank any more than that...

Either of those options going to make it easier to put a pump handle in there?

Josh

the door is gonna be hinged at the front, so nope, not really..

it's purely how it's gonna look in a parking lot...

after my last post, I'm gonna post a pic tomorrow of 1/2" space on top, and right... I'm kinda thinking that might be a good look..
