Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Get er done man. Definitely will be worth it. I've seen what waiting does with the father in law. He has permanent nerve damage. But at least he can cast his fishing pole one island beach. He would almost throw the pole in the water cause he couldn't grip anymore. Kai needs ya Mutt needs ya with good grips haha.

Fingers crossed for a seamless pair of surgeries! :thumb:

thanks! yeah, I'm definitely doing it, it was just a question of how soon I could get it done... hopefully she calls me tomorrow with some scheduling.. really the game changer in the whole thing is trying to do both now, as opposed to now, and again next winter...

he told me the #'s and says "you have it SEVERELY in both hands, to put it mildly" :yikes: :doah: :haha:

feb 4 is the first surgery.... I pick up Kai 3 days later on the 7th.... probably gonna borrow the 015 GMC rig from work to go pick em up as it's an auto....

she's working on the second date now....

Dogs are looking good. Excited for you. Been without my blue heeler almost 3 yrs now. Just haven't be able to bring myself to get another one with this busy life. Good luck with getting the hands fixed.

thanks man.... down to about 3 weeks till he comes home.... I feel like I'm having a kid... :haha: been waiting a LONG time to do this..... :saweet:

it's gonna be a crazy spring.... :screwy: told my boss's yesterday I probably wont be back till like april 15.... so that means I'm gonna have about 8, 9 weeks with Kai before I go back hopefully...

I'm thinking for the second surgery at the end of feb hopefully, that I'll drop the pup off at the vet in the morn, and hopefully pick him up at the end of the day...

on a Mutt note.. ground steel for about 6 hr's today.... tomorrow I've gotta cut out the center 3/16 pieces, and hopefully weld up, than final shape the 2 uprights.. bore and sleeve the tow points..

I'm really gonna try to bang out this bumper before the surgery.... I have 17 working days give or take.. looking to start fitting up tube and skid stuff to it this weekend....

I'll take some more detailed pics of the sammich process tomorrow...

That looks complicated and how thick is that steel?

the 4 pieces that are cut out are 3/8 thick.. just got finished shaping them.. the 2 with the carbon still on em, and have those 2 notches on each are the "inner" pieces of the sammich at the frame horns.. 3/8 on the inside, than the outer 3/8's... the full sheet they are sitting on with the marker work is the 3/16 center for the sammich.. it's the thickness of the frame..

I'll cut the 3/16 about a 1/4" undersized all the way around.. than bevel the outers a bit, and nuke a bead all the way around.. reshape... similar to how I made the K5 bumper mounting, just not as thick...

tho the K5 sammich is 1/4", 3/16", than 3/4".....

so the thickness of each upright will be 15/16"..... they should be able to crush/sever many a Prius.....

burnin em in now... hopefully they'll be reshaped and the tow points will be bored and sleeved by the end of the day tomorrow...

than it's rebolt them on and start forming the skidplate structure and tube work on monday.....

.

thanks.... as with most of my stuff, it's overkill x eleventy...... each upright is about 15 lb's I'd guess... 9/16 hardware.... not as insane a mounting as the K5 has, but it's pretty ridiculous in it's beef.....

good to be back working on it.... more pics tomorrow....

just need to chamfer all the edges a bit..... it's set up to run 7/8" shackles... finishing up the other one now...... hopefully tomorrow I can start getting some tube and structure going if it stops snowing..

thanks... :D

yeah, a bit stouter than I originally thought.. they actually weigh 25 lb's a piece according to the semi -accurate LAB™ scale..... :yikes: :haha:
