Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

here's how the "finished" heights will be...

here's the layout..... the door is to the right... pretty certain I'm gonna "stack" the bats, as opposed to side by side.. mainly due to clearance for the hold down... but as I gather components, I'll do final fit-up... I'm gonna do the tray from 1/8" alum, with 1/8 x 1" high sidewalls... than I'll plugweld that to the tray....

tomorrow I start drilling for the slides and making the mounts...

ha, every dog has his day... ;)

never mesh'd for the handles... knew i would have to "make it work".... they fit perfect side by side... bit overkill, but hey........ ballin.... :pimp:

i'll do the same black/silver treatment as the drawers...

figures, i never opened the 4th drawer box from Highway Products, finally opened it to pilfer the handles.. and that was the one with the mechanical drawing, parts list, etc... :doah: now i have the #'s to order 2 more... :saweet:

Looks like there's room for bigger batteries in there. Throw a couple of RV batts in there.

oh, i could certainly do #31's, easy... and i do deal with them here and there in the marina.. but #27's are like 88% of my battery clientele these days... I get em free all the time... it'll be plenty... i'd have to buy #31's.. ;)

ugggh, gotta start drawing up the diagram tonight... that's gonna take a week to work out the details... fun, yet annoying.. ;)

see, that's why it's good to keep you guys around...... :haha:  :saweet:  :dunno: :doah:

you just gave me an idea.... I'm gonna leave the 2 "short side" walls off the tray.. than I could run #31's if I come across some... as long as it has 2 walls it'll be fine with #24's thru 31's...

the holddown will be, ummmmm, stoUt.. ;)

Poor blazer, losing more parts to Mutt.

6 one way, 1/2 dozen, the other... look at it this way, it'll get Mutt done faster so I can get back to the K5... ;) when the time comes I'll build a better one for the K5.. :pimp:

I feel Mutt's a worthy build for me to actually finish for once in my life.. it's certainly more of a headturner, and useful, than the K5 will be...

so, in an effort to avoid starting the wiring diagram ;) :haha:, I decided to undertake another comp project last night that I've been putting off for years..

I've wanting to organize my photos.. thousands... everything is still in dated pic folders, and copy'd here and there... so I'm creating all kinds of main category folders, funny, lab stuff, mutt broken down into MANY categories, K5, Kai, family, etc, etc.. and moving everything out of the dated folders... wow, what a project this is gonna be.. but i can see it paying off down the road.. i'm constantly searching for pics of stuff.......

Lab™'s heating up... but i gotta work outside today a bunch getting the shelf fitted up/drilled/mounted.. at least I get to build the brackets inside.....

still my sig to this day ;)
Some times I go back and read the start of some of these epic builds. Its awesome

If you keep stealing parts off the K5 you may need to update that thread just so you remember which parts you need to replace
:haha:

the only things left are the build specific mods... ;)

but I did replace the 2wd box I pilfered for Mutt with another!! :saweet: :haha: :doah:

anyway, i've started the slide mounts today.. of course it's not straight forward... sh*ts tight... had to pull the floor for making the 2 lower pieces..

once made, i need to mock that all up with new hardware.. might not be able to run countersinks, might need to do reg hex.. ya wont see it anyway...

than i need to mock up the drawer and vertical piece, tack it.. disassemble.. fully burn... shape.. 220/coat it all... paint handles/latches... reassemble.. :doah: :haha:

btw..... this started as me being a kook.... :haha: but now that I'm into the project, I think it's gonna be bada$$...... :saweet:
