Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I encourage stealing of parts lol.

If it gets Mutt done then you can get back on the blazer.

I wanna wheel with ya someday Paul. So basically you gotta get em both done. But Mutt towing your blazer? You gonna stop traffic!

the actual elephant in that sentence is the trailer.... :haha:

so, I know everyone just digs final pics.. but i'm trying to remember to take more process pics...

here are the 2 bottom plates in...

here is my 3/4" of spacers.. just wanna make sure i have plenty of room to thru-bolt something if i want.. but i may try not to do that at all...

here is exactly where the tray will sit.... this leaves me 1 1/4" above a top post battery...

the other nice benefit to this project is it helps hide the panel mount tabs down at the bottom....

here is down one of the sides, with the vertical wall just sitting there....

I may be able to utilize some of the side space effectively when I start running 1/0 all over the place... ;)

oh, the other chore to that list is... i now need to remove the front/back panels on that box to do all the tack welds....

:doah: :weld:

.

oh, forgot..

as of right now, the sidewall components in the box will be the winch solenoids, sub power panel for the bed/lights and a decent sized inverter... something i can run a grinder, buffer off of... should be able to mount the inverter up next to the bats, so the outlets are out by the door... but i can add that down the road easy enough... something like this...

Hi, first post here on ck5. I found Mutt during a google search session while I was looking for inspiration for a Bambi Basher I want to build for my '86 K2500. I love the look of your front bumper/grill guard and the way that you sandwiched your frame in the uprights. Then I saw pictures of your tubebed and thought it looked awesome, I clicked on page one of the build hoping to see how you built the bed and the grill guard... Needless to say I got a bit more than I bargained for! But 6 or so months later of off and on reading I can say I made it through all 367 pages!

I think you can be proud of what you've accomplished so far. What you have built looks like what you had planed from the begining of the thread. I am looking forward to seeing how the cummins swap goes, and it will be interesting to see how you build the kennel portion of the cab.
...yeah, it's all about the pooch... KAV - kennel assault vehicle

BTW My kids love your Angry Mallard!

hey big thanks man!

you've got some patience plodding thru this novel... ;) welcome to our show, if ya think I can help, holla...

lol, I named my first truck build in the 80's, Bambi Basher...

here's the basic premise I had come up with for main cable movement.... this is viewed from the front of the rig to the back.. fixed point, middle top .. fixed rear tray corner... i had contemplated some sort of low side roll-up kinda deal.. like a plasma table and such, but I think this is a more fool proof and safe approach..

equal movement in each direction..

oh, and i just found my next project... :grind: :hack: :weld:

do the ceiling in this compartment, finish it... 8 panel mount tabs and another slab of alum... it is technically still open here and there up top.. and being that all this wiring is going to be based off the walls and ceiling, MAW do it now... ;)

How much inverter research have you done so far? May want to budget some extra space for one the size you want. Our service trucks have 2500W ones and they take up a fair bit of room. I'm assuming you've done your homework but figured I'd throw that out there now just in case

thanks, yeah, I've been looking at them dimensionally too... most seem to be shoebox size or so for a decent sized one, like 5000... I may cheat the batteries to one side or the other... haven't done a ton of research, just a quickie look at the top 10 reviews for last yr.... figure between 2000 and 5000 is what i want.. but that price range runs from $150ish to 500+... and really, it'll just be for chargers, and one power tool at a time...

Yeah all our utilty trucks either had 1800 or 3000 watt pure sine wave inverters. I can't remember the brand but they were like a buck a watt. The older trucks ran Redi-Line DC generators but either one took up like an entire 18"x18" bin.

This ones behind the seat of my current F550 service truck. It's just used once in a while for my Milwaukee chargers. Seems decent.

hmmmm, i just realized I have a good "in" for inverters and can save some money getting it thru the marina...

just a cursory look shows a lot of Aims product, never heard of them...

that would fit perfect mounted to the sidewall.....

but i see xantrex stuff too, and we use their chargers ALL the time in the boats...

We run Magnum brand pure sinewave ones now. I've got a 2500 in the back that's about 1' square and 8" thick then another 1000w pure sine wave up front for chargers and such

I have that ones smaller brother in the front of the truck you'll like it! Nice thing about those magnum ones is they make a remote mounted control panel you could put in the cab of the truck if you wanted to.
