Chit be a rollin.... I'll have wire by the weekend..
I'm hoping for good things for Mutt leading into my off-season....
plow thru 82% of this bat setup... and play with the new pic toy... 
pretty sure I'm gonna run 2/0 instead of 1/0, just need to check #'s and flexibility... working on wire retention, etc now.. it's critical to what I'm about to build... toys tomorrow...
*I feel like I should be researching fighting robot builds for this moving harness dealio....*
and oh, I'm kinda revv'd on this mod/install..
it's the kind of work I live for.... 
have the tank built over the winter to install in the spring.. which means I'll be lifting the bed off with the Lull. that should be entertaining, lol.....

what size are those green beasties?
those are just a couple grp 27's I have kicking around.. I'm toying with the idea of bumping them up to 31's... i have a brand new pair at the marina i can use for mockup... the only drawback is I have an abundant supplies of grp 27's, free.. if i go 31, i'd need to buy a pair... I'm thinking I may make the tray capable of doing 27, or 31.. or even a 24 in a pinch...
not sure if I'm gonna be able to fit an inverter in here.. we'll see, gonna get congested, me thinks..........

so begins the headaches I like...
some basics of what i'm doing here..
the heart of the system, the tray... 2 #27's, #1 feeds the starter and cab functions... #2 feeds the rear winch and all acc lights.... the 3 boxes are bat switch for each, and the ACR..
basically what happens is I'll have 3 Conturas dedicated to this... left and right switch are mom down=off / mom up=on.... for the bats... you push it, it remotely turns on/off the bat switch... you'll hear a "clunk" inside the box when ya hit the switch in the cab... they also have the yellow manual controls on them..
the center switch is for the ACR, center is off.. down is perm parallel, up is mom parallel... even in the off position, it will charge both bats....
working out tentative routing, wire needs, buss bars,, etc..... tonights project is working out what i need to remote mount the winch solenoid pack in the box.. after seeing the corrosion going on in the used piece i have, i think it will be worth it..
#31's.......
I like 31s cuz I came from a semi truck background where that is what is ran in everything. I have two of them in my blazer 950 CCA each. Plus not sure how things are for you and your area but we get some of the semi truck dealers out here that put them on sale sometimes for killer prices. Recently my Freightliner dealer had their branded batteries on sale for like $70 ea. I have never seen them in dual post style though. I might have to go that route next time. I hate going with just a top post style and running out of places to easily add cables. Even stud style 31s for semis run out of cable room.
I run everything off studs when I can.... and I'm a spaz about keeping bat connections to a minimum and running buss bars/posts... I have sailboats at work with 17 ringlets to hot posts...
I'm gonna build the tray for 31's... but it will also hold a 27 or 24 easily..
the "key" to this whole project is the moving harness bundle..... it's the critical factor to badarsery......
stoked.. but this will take the winter to be finalized... the rear winch will be up and running.... i may, or may not, get to the inverter, but I want the basics of this box up and running... liquid-tight fittings and major cabling done... I figured out that if I add 3" of cable to the forward pos/neg, I can just shorten em a few feet later for the dizzle...

What cable are you going to run? I know I saw something about 2/0 but are you doing like a welding cable for the flexibility when sliding the battery tray in and out or what's the plan there?

it's either 2/0, 1/0.. I've been too lazy lately to run the math, but even the 1/0 should be pretty overkill.. i have some lengths of each to help test my attachment points, etc.. my initial thought is the harness needs to come across the back wall of the tray, then go up to the ceiling, and back across, the same path as the lower tray mounting.. I'm also considering that I may want to add a "stiffener" to part of the suspended part.. simple short splint wiretied, kinda deal...
but I don't even know which side that will happen on yet.. that all depends on the best exit point from the box toward the frame...

I'll run tinned marine ancor wire... it doesn't get any better... and with my discount, no brainer... it's a bit less flexible than an equivalent welding cable, but it has better #'s and much better corrosion protection...

oh, the stoooopid thing.. we have tons of red/yellow (marine grds are yellow now) in 4/0 at work that i could have at a song.. but the 4/0 is just stoooopid.. making that work here would be impossible..

I did an oil field winch truck once in 4/0. I think it had 4 batteries and we ran 2 ground cables and 2 positive cable to the starter. I remember it being a big pain in the ass to get all those cables routed up and on the starter. Heavy as shit with copper cables.
yeah, 2/0, even 1/0 is stout as he!!.. the 4/0 is ridiculous.... we use it in the big sportfishes with multiple 8D's and 12 cyl..... it's bigger than your thumb.....
