Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Looks very nice! The tray slides out so smoothly, it seems like there's no weight on it.

The way you put the bends in the wiring is very interesting. I never thought of something like that. Specifically I'm talking about the wiring on the winch solenoids and the buss bar above the relays. Gives it a cleaner look I think. Is there anything special you do to make those bends, or just bend it with your fingers?

yeah, those 250 lber's handle that like nothing...

that's my trick, you heat it with a heat gun at the bend, bend and hold till cool..... and thanks... :)

the rig is back up and running, but i really didn't wanna move it as i have harness's hanging all under it... so, I loaded the winch as tight by hand as I could, but I definitely wanna unspool it and drag the rig with it... just enough room....

as with 2/3 of my life, not without a hitch... winch worked perfect.... HOWEVER, having never run it before, it has a bit of a squeaky/grind noise once every revolution... so before any serious use, I'll have to take it back out and go thru it...

.

I thought heat might be part of the equation.

I like those Warn hooks too.

actually... correction.. i forgot about my hood gauge.. so i'll make that boost... and i'll add oil temp, which I have already, to the right...

i'm wondering if that winch isn't sitting flush and is tweaked a bit.. i'll have to loosen it and run it and see if it goes away before i rip it apart...

on to the interior! :saweet:

oh, and grrrrrr, I remembered I've got sheetmetal work in the dash to do.. and spot it in with RR... wanna patch up the tank selector switch hole.... maybe sat i'll get going on that stuff, supposed to be warm....

other than my daughter, this may be my greatest achievement eva.... :haha:

after 40 yrs of taking cars/trucks apart, I finally took all the 3 lb coffee cans, sorted them and put them in bins... literally have like 40 hrs doing this... :doah: :haha:

This is what I need

This is what I need

i could use 1 more, but really don't have the space.. this was kind of "found" wall space as it was... i always look for things like this, file cabs, etc... but i finally nutted up for a pair, they were $62 a piece..

it's amazing the amount of GM body bolt type stuff i have with the built-in spinning washers, tapered ends and the like, flanged bolts, etc...

And now to get some mini drawer slides and amber LEDs for each bin ;)

:haha:

I did add a spotlight above cuz it was such a dark area... :pimp:

on a Mutt front... harness's are up into the engine compartment... heat/AC is gone.... 1/2 the factor harness is gone...

rain day tomorrow, but hope to weld up the dash on weds... and get the bed lights hooked up...

Been off a few days. Tray looks pretty good. Batteries are dirty though :p

You gonna put some D-ring mounts someplace on the back of the truck?

got my eye out for a pair of good black Sportsmans at work. ;)

hadn't really thought of D-rings... I usually just run a strap around the bed foot if I need to... maybe I'll incorporate something with the standard hitch, whenever I get around to that project...

Mutt's drivable again, bypassed the heater... no speedo, but I'll throw my GPS in it if i feel the need...

tomorrow I'll finish hacking out what I don't need from the harness to have it run with just the basic lights.. i'll actually leave the headlight switch hanging behind the dash, while i hack out the dash for the bezel...

this is how i ran the K5 for 6 months while i integrated the dash... basically i'll run a speedo, oil pres and wat temp temporarily in my bezel.. that's it.. just trying to get it as far along as I can.. once i pull it off the road for the swap, I'll gut the rest and do the fresh fuse block and dash stuff.. only factory stuff will be the 2 plugs on the 78 column...

only annoying thing right now is I can't find the little alum adapter i have to run my AM speedo with the factory cable... haven't seen it since I stopped driving the K5 in 1912.....

oh, hey what's really nice sound deadener-y stuff for the firewall?

change of plans.... I was sitting out in Mutt seeing how obtrusive a 6 switch console above the mirror would be.. and said harness...

when it dawned on me... remembering how well the Conturas fit in the stock dash vent

full

I decided to run the 6 switches in the vent hole.. where i was gonna put the stereo.. they fit absolutely perfect.. snap right in/out.. just need to knock it down a bit to the left.. and an inch or so to the right for the last 2 switches...

I had been thinking of ditching those vents anyway.. i really only care about floor and defrost...

once again, making my wiring a TON easier....

I have kind of a neat idea I wanna try on the other vent too....

decided to make a fresh bezel for Mutt, like some of the other one-offs in the K5, hood, etc, I'm not comfortable pilfering it..

so that'll take a little while... all good, gimme sumfin to do....

here's how that center section will be.. minus the gauges won't be there... ignore the hodge podge of upper switch colors, i just threw on whatever...

full

now it comes out so i can weld up that switch hole and start cutting up the steering wheel area..

need to hunt for an upper bar latch thingy for the glovebox... that's why i pulled the glovebox when i got it, missing that and wouldn't stay closed.. drove me nuts flopping around.. again, no big, the glovebox gets a custom inner with the vintage air, so it'll have to be apart anyway... but i noticed LMC didn't have it... i should have one kicking around from the K5.. but have yet to stumble on it...

Not sure what you are going to do for a radio but mtx makes a sweet little bluetooth receiver that fits into one of them switch holes.

oh, that's pretty badarse..

g236AWBTSW-F.jpg

neat, I like it.. thanks!

I'll actually have a couple open switch spots in the new bezel now that i put the bed lights in the middle.....

No problem they work pretty sweet and take up not much space. Just installed the round version last night and works good so far. I believe it is the same size of standard small gauges but didn't try it.
