Yes. Just angle on the perimeter and held on by tank straps. Then sit it on some rubber liner strip or something.
The tank should see no load in any direction other than it's own weight. With as much vibration and deflection that can happen, it will crack.

Or be absolutely positive you have eliminated all of the flexibility in its mounting structure.
 
Or maybe just lose the gussets all together and run your tabs as a strap allllllll the way across the tank bottom so you're mounting the straps and the tank is just sitting on them.
 
i don't plan to run straps whatsoever... with my design, there are no straps.. that outer flange will be bolted right to the frame with just a rubber gasket material between the tab and frame rail...

i would still do the same with a frame, just stitch weld the tank to the frame...
 
tho.... i could do the frame in steel.. rubber gasket.. than alum tank sitting in that frame on the rubber and strap the tank to the frame.. the problem with strapping the tank is real estate over the top side to side is limited with the angle back and than fills, etc up on top...

hmmmm, I am really liking this idea... what would make it work is if I can run straps from front to back, over the angle part.. plenty of room going that way.. I'd have to shift the tank forward a bit, or combo that with lopping a 1/2" off the back where the angle top is....


I'll have to look at this option.. it would also make the tank construction that much easier, and cheaper... just a box at the bottom.... the only other issue is that does mess with where the drainplug was gonna go, but i can work around that....



BUT... the HUGE thing this would do for me, is allow me to drop the tank DOWN thru the doghouse hole to install.. no pulling the bed.... :)
 
anyone have thoughts on the baffling? i think it's the easiest solution.. get some triangles going... will add the most structural strength and be relatively simple to do, due to the top being open..

the fills will actually dump down into either side compartment.. whereas the pickup, return, sender and vent will all be centered in the front compartment..
 
Is this for diesel or for gas first then diesel later on? Big truck tanks don't run any baffles in them so any way you baffle it should be good and add plenty of strength and rigidity to it. I would either do the strap idea or instead of the mount with gussets how you have it now do a full length piece of some heavy angle iron from one end to the other on the side of the tank and then do the gussets on the ends of it and maybe two in the middle. That way like @obijuank5 said it won't tear out and crack at the tank. I'll see if I can get a pic of the 70 gallon modified semi tank in my service truck.

This is the ones I've added mounts to before. It is a "D" shaped tank with straps and instead I welded some heavy 2" x 2" or 3" x 3" angle to the ends and then just bolted it down solid. Are you having a tank shop build yours or just a fab shop?
 
strictly dizzle... my tank shop for the boats will be building it.. cool, i figured that baffling was a simple quick solution....

I'm gonna do the steel tray, straps front to back... so i need to make a Fazio steel run and get some materials... the original idea was the "simplest" solution... this will be more work for me, but worth it... thanks Obijuan! :surepal: :haha:


the nice thing about that is, I'll show up with the rig, the drawings and the tray uninstalled.. and i'll leave the tray with them so they know the footprint is correct... I'm gonna hard mount the tray to the frame..

than use our standard rubber tank strap stuff for the tank to sit on... i will peak thru mcbible and see if i think i see a better product.. but the tank shop gives you this stuff with any tank they build.. like 2" wide 1/4" thick butyl rubber type stuff..

I think I do ok with that... obviously I want certain things the way I want them, no matter what anyone says.. but I've definitely taken many suggestions to the build if i think it works... tail lights are one that comes to mind... i had a few other ideas, and someone suggested these, and they ended up being THE best solution aesthetic-wise....

I know only a few still read this, but I always really appreciate everyone's input... makes me a better builder...

been driving around since may with expired tags... :doah: I usually send both my regs in way early with the mail in's... dumbarse spilled a coffee one day and Mutt's got wet... mailed blackies in, and forgot Mutt's drying on the book shelf... found it yesterday and mailed it 3 months late... :whistle:
 
I crack me up.... :screwy:

I've done tons of rockers, qrters, rust, etc, yet I have been avoiding doing the rockers for like 2 yrs now... even now, i could have started last weekend and blew it off..... I just find stuff like that annoying now.. tedious...

decision is made to fab a tank tray? chompin at the bit to go get steel and get to some fab ASAP!!! :doah: :haha:

they are just gonna be rosets, so no big... good, I don't have to get another bottle.. thanks.. gonna do the straps in stainless with T-bolts... i'll have to order some wire...
