Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

final interior on the dizzle juice Sarcophagus..

full

start burning the top in tomorrow finally....

full

dizzle box closed up for the last time..... ready for hrs of quality MIG time... fit up came out nice....

full

some creative clamping was employed to ensure contact with the baffles... ;)

hopefully by monday night, it'll all be burned in and smoothed out...

need to get my fittings/plugs for pressure testing it together..... I use an outdrive pressure tester...

ordering some gray epoxy tonight for the exterior, I can't be bothered to drive to toms river mon-fri... #SummitbrandFTW ;)

hoping to douche it next weekend... think I'll paint it gray.... not silver.. black tray, straps and hoses... I'm just gonna dump a qrt of WD40 in it before I put it in the tray and flip it around, and drain off the excess...

back to grinding/sanding....

I figure I've got a solid 4 to 6 hrs of grinding and flatpadding to do tomorrow.. and probably a bit of touch-up welding...

full

basically that joint will be heavily flatpadded, with 60 grit 3M gold on the DA... followed by 180 for prime... and at that time, I will just knock the sharp edge off the peak with the 180 on the DA. I'll treat the rest of the joints the same..... no fancy beveling grinder..

oh, and correction, I'll hit my local guy on a rain day, Summit wouldn't list the hazardous shipping fee...

while I'm confident it would pass a pressure test right now.... I do want to go in next weekend and touch up some spots on the top edge, like this... being single welded.. i want perfect 90's there, before i do any rounding over...

full

the corners and bottom are all chamfered already....

very happy to have gotten a bit of time in this weekend.. now it's Kai time....

welding that stuff up now.... I'm impatient ;)

ftr...

I'm exceptionally pleased with how all the fab/construction has gone to this point on this project.. feel like really taking my time on fit up was a very smart decision... painstaking, but agita free... nothing got hectic/out of whack...

I'm exceptionally annoyed that I cowarded out and didn't do alum/spool... I could have made that happen...

technically, it wont matter... I'll be long dead before this tank will be an issue... and I may have saved 50 lbs that way??? 100ish vs 160ish ( to be determined)
just that OCD side of me wanting to build the best stuff I can... :doah: :haha:

I'm also up in the air on adding a lifting point... honestly, a rope/strap around the fills does fine.. i'll see...

OCD is a killer and sometimes a time waster

oh, no doubt... I've perfectly prepped painted surfaces that only God and I will ever know about on a thousand occasions... :haha:

all that said, I'm definitely not the OCD type in my personal life... but when it comes to proper build tech, I struggle with it..

well, got a 1/2 day in today after dentist visit #42 due to rain.. maybe tomorrow too, we'll see.. I can't afford that...

anyway, basically ready for primer...... ran out of 60, have more at work, so I'll dial the surface in a bit more to my liking later in the week...

bottom...

ready to fit holddown straps up..

full

the epoxy I picked up today.....

full

haven't weighed it yet.. it's definitely 150 lbs, and a bit awkward to flip around.... but I will.. gonna do a qrt of WD swirled and drained right before install....

i'd like to be in primer sunday.. than i can slow my roll a bit... tho i want to get a topcoat on it fairly quickly.... mainly due to wanting all paint processes done before I go douched WD40 around... :deal: :haha:

still need to repull the tray, fit the tank in the shop, and fab the straps/holddowns.. also get my plumbing in order... than final install..

#Kaibomb approved...

and I changed my mind, gonna paint the tank satin black as I have a bit left kicking around to use up.. with silver straps...

but I'm gonna get it set up on the bench and pressure test it this week prior to painting it..

so.. on a build babble aside....

I started trying to come up with "no cash" projects for the winter to work on... I'm in such a $$$ hole, but I'm really hoping to pound the hrs the next few months to clear up some of the debt and actually get back to buying parts...

anyway, other than my else where mentioned new pool addiction/scratch I'm trying to itch, I do have the ps rocker to do on Mutt.. shuffled that big box around again today in prep for a table, might be time to get rid of it...

also have some layout change plans in mind for the LAB™ I'm gonna be trying... I'm hoping to compartmentalize the shop a bit more...

oh, and finally came up with a good pair of #27 bats for this rig... the decade ole intrastates had finally given up the ghost a while back... while I don't regret taking Mutt off insurance, I do regret not renewing the registration.. was actually thinking of driving it this weekend, driveline noise and all.. blows up, oh well... insurance is a phone call, reg, not so much...

what do you guys think of Raptor lining the tank black?? :ears:

my 2wd, pool buddy just gave me a qrt kit...

I was wondering if being black would heat the tank up too much...?

Ah.. forgot about the dog house....
Raptor the chit out of it :waytogo:

just to follow that up... think i'm gonna do some single stage black.. sand it.. and go for the Raptor on the whole damn thing on top of that... I don't want to Raptor right on the epoxy... just kind of a "Ryoken body work/coating system mentality thing"...... believe, or care, in it or not.. ;)

but I luv the texture of raptor and think it would be perfect for the tank..... brain pic, and all that...
