Ryoken's 91 GMC 1500

I can knock you out 4 plates to cap the mounts on the cab on the plasma if you want.

thanks, i'm good.. the steel will be here tomorrow, i actually didn't have what i needed here.. basically 6" x 6" squares with 2 rounded corners and a 2" hole for the mount...

just ordered some new seam sealer and a gal kit of black epoxy for the cab... think i'm gonna use a gal i have of Al's Liner on the floor over the epoxy......

so, just to ramble an update.. unfortunately I couldn't progress Mutt this summer other than the lightbar and maintenence, so the ugly duckling 2wd rig got the love...

so far the list is, new clutch, new ds floor, bench seat cover, dyed the interior black, completely rebuilt column, new Grant steering wheel, all new sound system... this weekend it's getting all new tie rods and shocks... have to go back in the column too, the damn turn signal delete won't work right...

next yr i may do the cab corners/rockers and get the rig in primer... but it's headed toward being a real solid mileage rig for me.. heck, i'd even consider throwing a Jasper 4.3 at it for the cost I get em at.. other than valve seal puff it runs great for a 6 tho...

i'll get some interior pics up semi-soon...

We had an identical truck except it was an auto and the 4.3 is still one of my favorite engines. They produce good power for their size and just keep on tickin!

I'm assuming you meant turn signal cancel is what's not working?

yeah, it's just not pushing the springs hard enough.. gonna try an AC Delco one this weekend...

so.. other than mounting the new rear speakers in their "behind the seat boxes", the interior is pretty much done.. excuse the finger prints... and still need to get into the column for the turn signal cancel... but the new front speakers and Kenwood unit are in and all the satin black is done.. just need to do the gunmetal on the door insert pieces around the handles... same color i did the bezel in....

I won't be running plastic pillars, kick panels or a headliner for a long time, if ever... don't care, it's pretty sweet in there now compared to before...

than today, in prep for new shocks, end links new tie rods, I wire-wheeled, roloc'd and sand blasted the front x-member and control arms.... . primed and rusto'd.. next yr when i replace the front clip, i'll get the frame rails better.. the shocks, etc will be in monday...

little by little trying to save the rig..

I've come to the conclusion today, that the efforts towards this rig where overdue in the context of gearing it up for reliable DD-ing while Mutt is down for the Cummins swap...

oh, and yes, that is a broken wheel stud.. the guys who did the front tires must have had at it with a 3/4 impact... the knurls are stripped in the rotor.. had to cut it to get the rim off... grrrrr... thanks...

sooooo... I gotta say.. I'm liking where this stoopid 2wd kennel rig has gone.. other than Kai really doesn't dig hanging out in the back much anymore, doh..... tho he still LOVES cruising around on the bench seat (we went to the park in it yesterday), but it's good to have in a pinch for him if I need it.....

need to run it down for a final alignment, but the all new shocks, tierods and end links made a huge difference.. the fuggin shocks where original!

the interior/stereo stuff came out sweet.. it's just an $80 kenwood with fresh 4 x 6's and boxed 6 x9's behind the seat.. but it bangs out some Ted, L7 or Sab with some snot when need be... i find myself "over hanging in it cranking tunes while my steak is on the grill. ;)"

the 5 spd is what makes it tolerable... makes it relatively entertaining to drive.. the clutch is fuggin buttery smooth now..

gonna have them put a new pair of general grabbers up front to match the new rears from a couple yr's ago..

oh, and I'm thinking of carrying over my dash bezel color to the rims... kinda of a puetery platinum kinda deal to offset the black... i may try a few other more "standard" silvers... I do kind of like how close this is to the blacks.. and the bit of "brownish" it has adds sumfin too. we'll see.. easy enough to change around being rattlecan.... I'm also gonna do the bumpers and grill whatever said color too...

and i'm somewhat anxious to see if i can get to replacing the front clip and doing the cab corner/rockers next summer.. get the rig totally in satin black, AC up top too.....

that'd be it for a while for this rig.. but Mutt will be the priority as of jan 1 2018.... whether it's the 6BT or crazy dual bat stuff, sh*t will be rockin jan/feb.....

.

oh forgot, just for your entertainment, and the record......

here's how much I DESPISE white letters... those fronts where white lettered when i got the rig, the dingbats at the gas station put the new backs on whites out, after i specifically asked for blackwall.. they thought they where "matching" the front's... wasn't gonna make em redo em.... so the newer backs, AND the fronts are, yup, sharpie'd out in black... :pimp: :saweet:

another one while my steaks cook, sit on the milk crate with my bourbon and sharpie tires!! :haha:

ok, someone more versed in this body explain this to me...

what is my grill setup on this 92? all the listings in LMC for an 88 to 93 show a quad light deal.. this looks like the 94 to 98 single headlight one? ????? wtf

this weekend begins the front end "look" change to see what looks good... the grill is all busted up so it's a good candidate for multi-rattle jobs... i'm also painting the bumper....

the question is which way to go...

full

the immediate thought is to do all the lighter gray parts the bronzy, gray that the rims are done in... than the center inset in black.. and probably the bumper in black..

but something inside me doesn't like the way the grill meets the fender.. i'm thinking matchy matchy for the fender and grill, than do the insets in the bronze gray.. and try the bumper in the bronze gray.... think i'm gonna try that first,,,

once i figure out what yr grill it is, and what colorway looks good, i'll get a new one... the bumper i'll just paint the chrome...

LMC likely doesn't sell that grill due to it being pretty easy to swap over to the quad headlight style. That is the correct grill for your year. The single headlight trucks like yours are the lower trim package grill is all

so i could buy a quad grill, than i need what, just a quad composite headlight? i'll have to look at what's in there this weekend.. i don't see headlights listed for my rig in LMC.. i don't mind doing that upgrade if i can do a headlight upgrade at the same time.. just don't want it to be nuts.. like $100, 125 for a pair of complete headlight assemblies i would do....

If you were closer I've got a great chevy one for a 93, but shipping to Joysey would probably kill the free price tag as well as some goon breaking it during shipping.

Take this at face value but this topic just got covered yesterday on Facebook. A guy asked about switching from sealed beams to the composite headlights and chrome grill. He got probably 10 answers saying it's a direct swap over with the correct lights, grille, and light harness. I haven't done the swap myself but maybe @beags86 can confirm since he has parted his share of GMT400's

It's a straight forward swap just like a single to quad swap on a squarebody. I have done it before on some plow trucks but it was free because I had a parts Truck.

And Yes, that's the correct model grill for a base trim model truck like yours. A quad headlights only came on SLE trim.

thanks, yeah it looks like that stuff does it... just looked at the rad support, etc and everything else looks the same....... maybe down the road... for now, this rig goes on DA cheap!

:haha: all funding needs to go to Mutt and the CC's...

on that note... the rolling rusto guys who always think I'm a body snob? this one's for you! :haha: this weekend this rig will get a $50 rusto flat black rattle bomb job... gonna try to get most of the rig.. definitely wanna hit the AC cover... just try to get it to have an even look.. it's just soooo buttfugly... :doah: :haha: it's ALL over the place.. and there's LOT's of IT with the cap now.. :haha:

than when i do the cab corners and clip next yr, i'll start bringing it thru a real black epoxy primer..

i see.. the "sport" package version is a paint to match grill.. stock is the chrome and paint version... makes sense... we go sporty thinking.....

oh.. put a new pulse board in the wiper motor today.. $33, it fixed all the weird quirky issues the wiper delay always had... no shut off, random delay, etc.. all perfect now... no washer, but i'm sure that's a bad pump....

so.. i have to admit... I'm about to undertake one of those frenzied work weekends that get me going...... no crazy fab, or cool designing, just balls to the wall tear it apart, clean/strip, refinish it, yada kinda deals...

back in the 80's I would freak the guys out at work by leaving friday with a newly obtained cuda, chevelle, etc and return on monday with a car that had the clip off stripped, new mounts and headers, fresh chevy orange, sanded and painted wells, etc all back up and running with a dressup kit on it to boot... pop the hood, "holy fug...." ;)

won't be nearly that good, but i'm about to bust arse... 2 day full paint, plus a few mechanical fab dealios... just got done polishing all the glass/plexi, cleaning all the rubber moldings, and sudsing the pee out of the rig..

tomorrow morn I'll dry attack it.. grind out the few dents and fill... DA the rig thru 400... spot prime with 2K where raw.. than wetsand out as much as i feel needed, scuff the nooks.. than mask and rattlecan the whole rig in rusto flat black sunday morn... 12 cans at the ready!!!!!! :saweet: :woot: :waytogo:  :haha: :saweet: even the whole rig out so it isn't so palimino pony-ish.......... :pimp:

once that's done, this rig will be done for quite some time.. till rockers and real bodywork.. but as one can imagine with Mutt, that goes down the list... I'm VERY pleased with the way the rig is running... the 3rd gear synchro is a bit funky, but the rig runs well, drives straight and handles pretty well now... the interior work being the most fun part.. so much more enjoyable driving a rig with a "crisp" interior and semi-bangin system......

pics thru the weekend maybe, if not sunday night post overspray romp..... gonna be a giant flat black hearse looking thing.. but at least it'll be pretty clean in a sinister lame grandpa kinda way.. ;)
