Ryoken's 96 Furd twofiddy

would this rig be r12 or 134?

first rig with functioning AC... :doah: :dunno: :haha:

so.. it's NEVER had anything done to it.. ever... it works, just seems like it could definitely be colder.. need a top off? obviously the system doesn't leak...
The rad stack could be plugged up. Cleaning them on our old Duramaxs made a huge difference.

just popped for the stuff out back i need while I'm in there doing the hangar bracket..... fuel tank, seals, straps and rubber... new center brake hose... that's gonna be a big job.. tank is full, so it'll take me a week or 2 to run it dry.... gonna rip the bumper off and sheetmetal screw the license plate right to the tailgate...

oh, and I decided to leave the Visor off... gonna see about getting that roof ready to paint...

I've had several vehicles from the 90's that needed a top off every 6mo or so, so long as you keep up on it it'll hang in there. cheap maint.

that's good to hear... I'll throw my local shop buds a bone and let em do an AC service on it... fug it, I'll be damn sure to take advantage of AC, ESPECIALLY with Kai.... tho, with the back slider, and now the ps windows working, ventilating is easy...

one thing I'll give this fUrd stuff, the damn windows work nice and fast!

also looks like i'll pop for a qrt of the red on the rig some time soon.. fug, I've got the clear already... it's like $55 a qrt for the Nason....

might as well work towards reshooting the roof, and hood, at some point this summer..

upcoming work.....

MIG the visor holes, clean rust, bodywork roof, prime...

remove window trim and paint black..

paint roof.. have windshield installed.. new lights... trim...

rip rear tank out... blast, clean, strip rails... prime paint, new hangar/shackle, tank, skids, yada..

paint rear bumper black....

I swear, fUrd guys seem pretty boring :haha:

boredom Google image hunt thru trucks... I finally came across another rig with the same color combo deal going.. certainly looks like it could be argent... i'm guessing it WAS an orderable combo...

really glad I try to stay busy and move down the punchlist...

main objective.. get the back tank out, hangar, yada....

but I'm so glad I started heading down the "put a windshield in" mode...

caught that rust starting, etc.. TONS of debri under the upper and lower molding.. but NO rust, other than the 2 holes for the visor... glad to have gotten that all cleaned out...

I'm just gonna do the bodywork, prime and paint.. the roof, A-pillars and cowl..... for now.. later in the summer i'll do the hood... so i'll be getting a qrt of red next week...

the timeline.. bodywork thru primer... glass guy..... paint red... install black moldings....

i think the lights are gonna work... wont bother putting on until the roof is painted... but you get the idea.....

hopefully I'll be blowing thru most of that remaining tankful tomorrow.... maybe I'll be ripping the tank out next weekend...

also have a tentative with my guys downtown to charge the AC this week... says he vacs it, puts in a can of sealant and fresh junk.... $115....

this is gonna take a while... ;)

tank fought a bit harder than the front... had to torch the mount bolts... eventually had to cut the return line.... i'll just bubble flare the other end and run dizzle rubber...

the odd thing is, the tank has those upper straps pictured (which aren't apparently available.. not pulling em, the front nut/stud setup will snap, etc, too corroded to save......)

but the lower mount is strictly the 2-piece skid plate, above the spare tire... when i ordered parts from jeffs, i got lower "straps" with the tank... it looks like they ran one, or the other.. maybe depending on spare tire location?

I'm inclined to reuse the skids... couple hrs in the blast cab, prime/paint, new anti-squeak...

tomorrow, i'm gonna start hacking out spare tire mount brackets and hardware.. maybe pull the back bumper....

the rails are gonna take a bit of work...

Crazy how the frame is crusty but the underside of the bed is mint.
Look under any 5+ year old GM truck in the rust belt, my 2012 included. Wax frame coating all pealed off and left exposed metal to salt/elements. Frames look like they've been to the bottom of the ocean but the body is still mint.
I think Ford used some kind of E-coating. Apparently it didn't hold up well either...

that back, 2', 3' is by far the worst area of the frame... makes senses I guess, sh*t getting thrown up there..

they wont be perfect without taking the bed off, but if i can "stop" the progression and get 90% of the area cleaned up, i'll be happy... hopefully i can get the blaster working ok...

here's how the fUrd will be running around for the next month or so...

the schedule will be....

good long weekend of wire wheeling, blasting, etc to get into primer...

once primed, I'll cut off the hangar bracket, clean that area, prime, replace hangar, get back on ground... hopefully the spring bushing will be easy peezy with my new long barrel hammer...

meanwhile, in the house... disassemble bumper, treat rust, sand, prime, paint... blast, prime, paint skids...

paint the rails... replace the rear brake soft line and prep fuel lines for hose...

install tank.. install bumper... happy dance...

took fri afternoon off, fug boats..... :saweet: prepping to get the arse end as clean/raw as possible and in self-etch by the end of the weekend.. possibly doing the hangar bracket too........ and gasp, back into paint.. we'll see how that works out...

wire wheeled and acid washed the heck out of it this afternoon.. still damn hammered..

hopefully the blaster works reasonable tomorrow.. it really needs a new tip, but really don't want to drive 45 minutes one way to get a new one...

frame, etc is blasted and self etched...

no pics yet.. sumfin wrong with the camera.. think the cable is bad, won't upload... tomorrow, I'm gonna see about replacing the shackle hangar..... oh, and bumper is done, ready to go on. cleaned, ospho'd, sanded, etch, black... haven't touched the crusty skid plates yet...

tough going with the blaster today with all the moisture in the air...

touched that up with the wire wheel, roloc and DA.....

so... in an effort to keep things "even" in the rig and do pairs, like I preach to my boat customers, port AND stb, lol.. I decided to wait on the hangar and do the ps too before I put the tank in...... it's not too far behind the other one... I'll do both at once....

thinking of just buying AC gauges and doing that myself... I can get freon and gauges for less than the $115 my guy was gonna charge... new skillset and all that... we'll see how motivated, *coughhotcough* I get....

oh, and I decided NOT to run the skid plates on the tank... straps only... match the front....
