so why did furd, and jeep, in their infinite wisdum, run shackles like this? i understand the "con", but don't know the "pro" to the setup...![]()
Allegedly, this design handles better. (IH used front shackles on Scouts as well) it’s supposed to be less prone to bump steer . It’s also suppose to be superior off road , theoretically when the tire comes up against an obstacle and the spring is compressed the axle is forced forward INTO the obstacle vs away from it . Allegedly giving more traction.
Seat of the pants experience says it’s a much harsher ride with little if any improvements in handling vs a rear hung shackle.
I will say this , a shackle reversal and a Dana 60 swap on a F250 like yours is a game changer . It actually makes the truck nice to drive.
me personally, I would do the coil sprung Superduty axle swap long before I messed with keeping the leafs.


luckily the rim doesn't look any worse for wear...
than when i lift it, i only need 2 tires!
