Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

keep in mind you have tailgate gaps to deal with too...

the rear mounts are both stock components? no triple spacer shims or anything?

they are stock...although the passenger side has a shim to help close the top gap of the passenger quarter

if you free the whole front of the qrter, will the bottom want to close up without the screw drawing it in?

I doubt it...it will fit ok till the bottom lip contacts the B Pillar....this is point at which it has to be shoved and a screw used to hold it in....that B Pillar edge must be 1/8 or so inches "in front" of the bottom of the quarter panel...and the B Pillar edge isn't square it is beveled...but the quarter lip should have been in front of it.
That's what causes that lip to angle forward at the bottom...

One thing I didn't attempt before because I didn't think about it was removing the rear body mount to maybe allow the bottom of the front to move forward

so, what your saying is, the qrter sheetmetal itself is 1/4 to 3/8 too far back, and the b=pillar is even further, correct?

which way where you smashing the b-pillar trying to make it go? obviously you still have me a little lost as to what happened here..

i think i got it now... when you tried to hang this qrter, what was the tailpan status?

This is a bit funny, but I don't remember...I will have to go back and look...did I change the tailpan before I installed the quarters? I think so...I am almost positive the new tailpan was on before I installed the quarters...

it would make sense.. which would have no reason to be keeping the qrter up...

and you say the old qrter was like that too?

Yeah...the old quarter lip was "pushed forward" like this one...I don't know if I have a picture of it. But the old quarter was on the old bent tailpan...

f*ck it, fill the bitch.. it's only a tapered bit in a jam.. just don't put anything in the bottom joint.. just 2 beads of seam sealer in there..

When you say fill it...you don't mean build it up again till it is even again do you?

I bet it's in those aftermarket qrters.. my guess is the end bend was off a bit or something..

I went out and tightened the door up...the top gap does look a little tight now...it could stand to be opened up...
I could put a shim in the body mount there, but that one is the tall "billowy" mount and is able to absorb a lot....if I put 1/4 inch shim in that location, think it would open the top gap a little? And opening the top gap would help the overall look of the rear gap...more open at the top might make the big gap less noticable...better "blend" kind of.....

tomorrow pull the back mount out, and see what it wants to do with nothing in the back...

I attempted to do it just now but I forgot that those have a steel tubular insert that requires the entire rear to be lifted to get it out...I will have to undo the other side as well to get it out...

It definitely has an effect on that gap though...it completely closed that top gap with just a little lift on the rear...my bet is that it will open that gap nicely...but what will it do without a body mount back there?

This has me considering popping the the welds on the door jamb up to the body line...should be enough flex in that to allow the bottom to come forward if it wants to???

i think that rear rail may be tweaked upward from Orca being dropped on it..

but right, if you can get the front free, ya may be able to get it.. we can figure out the back mount after...

How hard is it going to be to clean up that jamb after I get through doing this? Hot metal grinds burn their way into the clear and even primer

I guess I shouldn't ask how hard it will be...I meant it will need to be repainted no matter what I do

moving blankets, it's all about moving blankets.. but you'll have to reprime the front foot of the qrter and the b-post..
