Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
I have a set on my 85 dually lol. But they're in use at the moment since it's my DD.

I picked up heads today. As far as I can tell they look ok. Maybe one of you guys could notice something I don't since I've never really done much with heads lol.

I will get them checked. And possibly slightly worked/upgraded :dunno:.

Look decent. The Chevelle guys use 063 heads and are making 500-550hp with those heads all day.
Do your basic stuff with them. Port, polish, three angle.

Good score dude.

Only thing I wonder now is,...

Do I try and put them on my current engine going in this...?

If so, I wonder if my pistons will fit, since I have no idea what they have for a dome and such. :dunno:

I don't know what your end goals or plans are. But I think I would be tempted to lap the valves and slap them on as is. Sounds like your 454 is already decent. Those heads would help wake it up even more.

Then maybe build up the other engine from the ground up?

I plan on a quick basic rebuild and either RV or step over RV cam for the engine that came out of shorty. Then sell it. And use the money from that to buy a 7.4 vortec, and build that.

So the new heads, as long as pistons clear, will probably end up on the engine from the bee pretty soon lol.

On second thought, and parfor most of my builds lol. The new heads will make it onto one of the other engines .. I love the way the bee engine runs. I don't wanna go jacking with it.

I have 2 other bone stock big blocks to play with.

I got the bee engine flipped over on the stand. And in doing so flooded the floor of the shop with the antifreeze from inside it :doah:

I'll get the pan fixed and resealed in the next few days. Then hopefully get the engine compartment cleaned up enough to reinstall it

It was a lot more than I had oil dry for lol. I now have puddles and streams stretching over :doah:.

I remember using these back at tech school(the drip pan). Once I get my house done and have a garage I will be getting some for doing engines. I hate cleaning up or having a messy garage floor.

so your saying you did NOT pull the block drains and dump all the coolant ?

when ever possible i always do this .

Didn't even know there were block drains lol. And that pan would have helped... But not been enough probably

gm has been using them for years . :deal:

1 per side. pull plug . if no coolant stick a screw driver up in and stand back for the flow .

This is what I ended up with... and Yes my shops a disaster. :doah:
I'll remember them drains next time :waytogo:

18 hr days occasionally at work, and a little too much beer when I DO get shop time has equaled MESS.
