SUBURBICON, Urban Escape Vehicle.

I have a glass shop that says that they can cut them down.

Onto plan B, they can't cut them down do to the curve and polycarbonate won't work since it's flat, I'm looking at making them solid maybe out of fiberglass, any ideas.

Lexan should work I would think

Cut it out then put it in with using some cut shorter window rubber.

You could do steel then paint it black and it would look like tint :dunno:

Lexan == polycarbonate, same thing.

You might be able to bend the lexan by using the old window as a form. Gentle heat, like a propane torch waved over it, several inches away, gradually over time, might just do it.

I've only ever done it with acrylic, and that stuff bubbles if you look at it sideways ... but a brief bit of Googling says lexan is also easily thermoformed, so :donno: could be worth a try. Did I mention *gentle* heat? :D

Maybe clamp it onto the old window, then heat from the glass side?

Im thinking layering fiberglass over the stock windows and painting them black or body color and using the stock rubbers.

I have time to come up with something but keep the idea's coming.

I had a local glass guy tell me he was pretty sure we could make the stock windows work. I had a burb once and planned on bobbing it at one point. But he was the guy you called if you were chopping a top or doing a completely one off rod and needed to find a nicely curved windsheild to do all he trick.

I don't know if you have checked hot rod sites for recommendations.

Man, having fiberglass windows would make that thing like an Abrams tank on the back side, wouldnt be able to see anything at all.

They offer drill bits that can drill through glass, I would assume it can be cut some how some way, why not just have some glass cut to fit? I know its probably the least preferred option, but even cut down like it is, she still has a big a$$, and losing all that extra visibility is going to hurt I imagine.

Dude, keep a window if some kind. I would try cutting it myself with a glass cutter.

Side glass is tempered, you will have a mess of little pieces if you try this:doah:. Cutting tempered glass is a process, involving annealing, cutting and re-temper.
You would have to be a pretty crafty Glazier to do this. They are out there, but i'm sure it will be spendy.

the guy that I took it to is the go to guy for windshield chops, the 1/4 glass has such a tight curve it's hard to cut.

First time looking at this thread. Very nice work so far! Once my trail rig is severely beat up, I will swap all the parts into a suburban for sure :)

I just don't see why a flat piece of lexan or whatever wouldn't work. I have worked with so much flexible clear plastic sheets. I just have to imagine that you could easily make them work.

What about at least using one of the burb specific rear sliders and just making the back or front half of the slider out of something like fiber Glas or sheet metal?

Trying to find pics of the sliding burb Windows! I think it was daplumber that posted pics of them in his burb. Lmc truck lists them.

Soft top windows would be legit. On mine, my windows are tinted, and it makes for a hard time backing up, usually requiring both passenger (her) and driver (me) to do it in tight stuff. Having clear windows would actually be a lifesaver for my paint, but the blacked out look is cool, and mine isnt per say a hardcore wheeler, but it gets drove like one.

My point being, losing all that visibility would make it harder to wheel a big girl like that, harder than it technically has to be.
