What parts of the grille did you have to trim to get it to fit? Is that from LMC?

Had some luck on Craigslist this last week. Last weekend I found a pair of brand new tan racing seats with mounts for an 04 mustang cobra. I couldn't believe the seat mounts damn near bolted right in and the seat is in the perfect position. Now all I have to do is figure out a mount to bolt the harnesses down. I also couldn't pass up a running 5.3 for $500. A 5.3 with a 4l80 should be a good replacement for the old 275k mile 350 and 700r.

I bought the grille assembly off eBay from a company called Am auto parts. It was half the price of the LMC and i figured any aftermarket grille wasn't going to fit right so why not just find the cheapest one. Really the only thing keeping it from fitting was a few tabs on the back of the grille that hit the core support. I also had to egg out a few screw holes for them to line up properly. It really wasn't too difficult

Figured i would post an update. Ive been collecting parts for the 5.3 build. It started out as a 5.3 swap and escalated into a built 5.3 swap. So its taking me a little longer than i expected. Once i get the block back from the machine shop reassembly should go pretty quick. In the end it will be a completely rebuilt 5.3 with a BTR stage 3 low lift truck cam and some other little goodies. Picked up a 4l80 from a buddy of mine that needs to be rebuilt so that's next on the list. Plan right now is to hopefully have the swap done by the end of May. Then I will begin the suspension upgrades. I had a set of take off 37s laying around so i put those on for rollers. The goal is to sit as low as i can but still clear 37s

Wow. I'm interested to see how that cam works with the small size of the 5.3. And it looks like you got some time coming to that pretty paint to make those shoes fit. I like the direction though. Carry on dude!

Thanks! Still waiting on the machine shop so i can get the ball rolling again. The cam sounds a lot more aggressive than it is. Its a low lift cam designed for trucks so it keeps the power band lower in the RPMs or at least that's what they say. I wont really know how it is until i get it up and running. And i wish the paint on this thing looked as good in person as it does in pictures. But before i start cutting for the tires its going to get a lift just not too sure on how tall yet. I still need to decide on what springs i want to go with.

Love this truck already. Reminds me a lot of my dad’s red 85 burb. Nice work on the bedliner also. Looks slick! Definitely will be following this build!

I Finally decided the suspension setup I'm going with and most importantly what wheels i will be running. Ive been tossing around the idea of 6 or 8 lug and finally decided 8 lug just in case i find a deal on a Dana 60. It just so happened a co-worker of mine had an 8 lug 10 bolt he was willing to part with so 8 lug wheels it is. I ordered 17x9 Pro comp wheels and some Total metal innovations bottle opener beadlocks. These are going to look good wrapped in some 37x13.50 Toyo Mts

That is almost exactly the setup I’m looking at. Procomp 17x9s and Toyo MT 37x13.50. Along with a Dana 60.

Ive spent some time thinking about what wheels to go with and hopefully this will be the perfect setup for what I want. I don't have the Dana 60 yet but at least I wont need new wheels if I ever swap one in.

Well I finally have the new power train rebuilt and ready for install. It took some time but I wanted to make sure I had everything before I started the swap. Fired up the 5.3 today to make sure it ran and had oil pressure before I wasted time installing it. It was such a relief hearing that thing fire up without any problems. It has oil pressure, no smoke and sounds smooth and healthy! The plan is to start the swap next weekend. Cant wait to get the old 350/700r4 out and the new 5.3/4l80 in.

Progress update. New Engine and Trans are in and it starts. Just working out a few bugs. Installed an ORD shackle flip when I dropped the tank to install the new pump. I also was able to get some 4" ez ride springs for the front through work. Cant believe how tall it sits for just a 4" kit. Haven't decided on shocks yet but that's not too important at the moment. Ran into a fuel pressure issue and im In the process of fixing that. Just finished mocking up the exhaust. Finished the under hood wiring this afternoon, just have a few things left to hook up in the cab. I also installed the ORD high clearance engine cross member. Im not too happy with the oil pan clearance but I will have to check that when i get it running again. Had to trim a little bit of the frame to get the headers to clear but for the most part they fit. Built a dual battery trey that also houses the PCM. The Prime cooling radiator i bought off amazon worked out really well! Its been going pretty smooth for the most part.
