Swedester´s 87 burb build,halfdoor project in progress.

Man if I ever find a big strike of color I would love to do some thing like what your doing. My vision would look some thing like this. Keep up the good work! Living my dream through you.

just bring out the sawzall and angle grinder,it´s alot of work, but having a burb with 90 degree aproach and departure angle is worth the hard work.

snow is gone and the sun is out!tomorrow I´ll try to drag the truck in to position again, and get on with the work.
I found two old drive shafts from a 80´s volvo fl4 truck, and it turns out those have 1410 joints on them,so I now got all I need to make some nice shafts for the burb.

well, things took an interesting turn today,I made a deal on a late 80´s volvo td61 diesel engine,6 cylinders ca 6 liters 180hp w/out ic,230 hp with ic,direct injected torque monster :O) it´ll probably take until next year before it makes it´s way in to the truck, but I´m in no hurry.
found a short video of a td61 test start in a c20 pickup.

havent found any exact specifications for this particular engine, but it´s designed for a 36000 pound truck,so there will be enough!
there are a few bolt on options 5speed manual(lightest)6 speed manual(adds another 200lbs)and an automatic I don´t know much about, except it´s extreeeemely heavy.
I´m looking in to the possibilitys to have a gm th400 built to match the engine torque/rpm range, will see how it ends.
I need to make every bit of this swap as light as possible.

Yeah, can't imagine it's light.

Always confuses me when non-light duty automotive diesel engine makers list HP but not torque. It's a diesel dammit, we want torques!

So the manual trans are original Volvo stuff? Come with a transfer case or are you adapting or running a divorced transfer case?

Just curious.

yep, 5sp.,6sp. and auto were oe on these trucks, they never made them in 4x4 versions,so no t-case in oe form.
I´m hoping my th400 plan works out, lightest of the options so far,and I think I´ll need to be looking for a np205 to handle the torque, originally I was going for a 208/241 doubler, but aluminum cases and chains vs. 6 liter turbodiesel power would probably end very quick, and loud:rolleyes:

first actuall work on the burb since last year, hopefully I´ll get both sides welded on and capped today,if the weather permits.

got the springpads welded up and some temporary primer on them.

and these chunks of iron also came of

and smoothed the housing a little bit.

well,to quote eric cartman: f-ck-f-ck-f-ckeli-f-ck-f-ck!
I screwed up my measuring on the springpads,cc should be 790mm,and somehow I put them on a 890mm cc,so I cut off one side and ground smooth, and cut up the material for 2 new pads, and they are ready to go under the drillpress tomorrow, not what I was hoping for, just roll the axle back out and start over,so I guess the lawnmover won´t get fixed tomorrow either:doah:

I mainly know because .223 = 5.56, .30 = 7.62, .45 = 11.43, .5 = 12.7, 1 = 25.4, 4 = 102, 12 = 305, 16 = 406, etc.

Well having been raised in the metric system I can say it's the easiest system but it helps when you know thw language it started with.
The Standard system is really complicated but you guys grew up in it and got used to it.
You need to memorize the numbers to know converisons from inch to foot to yard to mile etc.. With metric, you add or substract zero's.
Now it doesn't mean one wouldn't make mistakes, as he made one here that I just did a month ago paying my bill, it was $275 and I paid $285.
How I did that I don't know but mine was easy fix, now I had $10 credit to the following month.
WIth him, he had to redo it.:thumb:
