So I retired the Blazer from daily driver status a week ago. I love driving it, but as gas has crept up it now costs me $100/week to fill up... At this point I can more than buy a new commuter car and pay for fuel, so it just doesn't make sense to keep driving it every day.
The silver lining? I can finally start tearing into this thing! I've got a huge collection of parts and projects that have been on the back burner in part because it was my daily driver. It still brings a tear to the eye to see it just sitting there...
Quick list of what's to come:
1) Minor rust repair & paint
2) Regear & swap in the m1009 rear, possibly add zero rates
3) Install leather front seats w/center console seat from a newer Tahoe that I scored for free!
4) Herculine the interior
5) Finally install the remaining injector pod spacer, AFPR, fuel pressure gauge, and salad bowl. Then tinker with fuel pressure and timing.
6) Rebuild or reseal leaking transfer case
7) Swap to manual locking hubs, and Service front axle.
8) Mount fire extinguisher
9) Figure our better seat belts for the kids
I'd like to have it all done by the Rausch creek trip, but June 9th & 10th is approaching fast!!!
Here's my temporary DD, my wife's '99 Mustang... I bought it new for her after she graduated college. It only has 58k miles and gets 28+mpg commuting(5spd w/6 cyl).
Oh, I put the 32" Goodyear MTR's on that I got for free from a coworker, no noticeable difference in the trucks "get up an go", but my fuel mileage definitely dropped versus the old 31" all season tires... But the hum and vibration from the mud tires covers up the vibrations and noise from the slowly failing stock rear!!!
