And I often fall prey to MAW syndrome. Remember, this thing has been parked for a couple months to fix an oil leak.
Replaced the valve cover gaskets but then I decided to replace the oil pan gasket since it could have possibly been leaking also. I want to power wash the engine bay to remove the oil on the motor and inner fenders, so I might as well inspect the wiring first.
The wire covers are pretty brittle or completely missing, so I might as well replace the covers where possible. And the starter wires are caked on with oil and dirt, so I might as well remove them from the alternator to clean them off.
While I was at the swap meet, I scored a pair of chrome valve covers for cheap. But I need to pass emissions, so I had to find an egr valve extension/adapter that may or may not allow the valve to clear the covers. We'll eventually find out.
Now since I'm in this wire cleaning project, I removed some of the previous owner and some of my own electrical tape patch job on the starter wires.
I covered these bare strands with tape the first week I owned it. It shorted against the frame when I was poking around in there one day. Figured I'd eventually get around to fixing it. Welp, now is eventually. Can't leave that hack job shit
Found this a little further upstream.
And since the alternator squeaks when idling and this stud wiggles around, I decided to buy a new unit.
I may get this back on the road by the next presidential election or 2.
