The Beige Jimmy

I bought some chrome valve covers and a stock am/fm cassette deck at the swap meet last weekend.
Ordered a shiny sticker for the air cleaner.

Rustled up an Edelbrock egr valve spacer/adapter that will hopefully allow me to retain it and run these taller chrome valve covers. We'll see.

Haven't installed any of it yet.

No updates. No cruising.
I need to connect the starter wires and finish reinstalling the alternator bracket with a replacement bolt to replace the one that fell down and disappeared into the abyss when I removed the bracket to look at the block casting code.

Going to add an auxiliary input or bluetooth to that radio before installing?

And I often fall prey to MAW syndrome. Remember, this thing has been parked for a couple months to fix an oil leak.

Replaced the valve cover gaskets but then I decided to replace the oil pan gasket since it could have possibly been leaking also. I want to power wash the engine bay to remove the oil on the motor and inner fenders, so I might as well inspect the wiring first.

The wire covers are pretty brittle or completely missing, so I might as well replace the covers where possible. And the starter wires are caked on with oil and dirt, so I might as well remove them from the alternator to clean them off.

While I was at the swap meet, I scored a pair of chrome valve covers for cheap. But I need to pass emissions, so I had to find an egr valve extension/adapter that may or may not allow the valve to clear the covers. We'll eventually find out.

Now since I'm in this wire cleaning project, I removed some of the previous owner and some of my own electrical tape patch job on the starter wires.

I covered these bare strands with tape the first week I owned it. It shorted against the frame when I was poking around in there one day. Figured I'd eventually get around to fixing it. Welp, now is eventually. Can't leave that hack job shit

Found this a little further upstream.

And since the alternator squeaks when idling and this stud wiggles around, I decided to buy a new unit.

I may get this back on the road by the next presidential election or 2.

So where do I get a replacement fusible link? One of them says 16, the corroded bare wire one says 14.

You can buy rolls of fusible link wire at the parts store I believe. Haven't messed with them in a long time.

Welp, I guess that's what I'll get. The carded ones are in short supply at the 4 stores I went to, but they did have the wire-only version.

I got heat shrink, but my soldering iron is still in a box somewhere. May just go get a cheap one from Harbor Freight or use crimp connectors and heat shrink over them.

Like an idiot, I tossed out or misplaced all the old oil pan bolts and 2 starter wire holders to put all new ones in that came with the new gasket.
So now I need to buy the wire holders.

Just realized the XJ shaft is out of a 2000 and all the online guides say to use an 84-96 model year unit. Whoopsie

Anybody want to buy a used 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ steering shaft?
