Couple bugs:

Thought I had the timing closer, but was about 6* slow
Coolant leak at the heater hose on the intake
Vacuum leak under the injection. Pulled it and silicones new gaskets

Try again later after it sets up

It sets itself once you return the connection after setting the timing. Seems to run 12-18 by itself

If you wanna see some crazy advance, throw your timing light on it during a cold start. I did that with my ‘89 and it hits somewhere around 30 btdc if I remember right.

That is crazy
Yeah it’s neat to watch. From what I’ve read, with the cold engine and fuel it takes more time to light off, so alot of advance is added. It’ll crank around 10 or so and once it fires it’ll jump way up and then watch it settle down as it warms up. I was studying it to help me make my base timing map for my megasquirt along time ago.

Yeah does the low lead to start. Kinda neat to watch and mess with

@LNielson I was going to add that I ran 14* when it was carbureted

I’ve had one injected for a long time. This truck wasn’t until after I lifted it. Wasn’t missing anything with a Qjet, ran just fine

Cold starts are nice though, and the IAC makes it easier to crawl with

With the vacuum leak sorted and stuff, it’s much happier. Pulls ok at 1500. Below 2500 I cant really feel a difference from the last Engine. It was a really grunty bastard. Above 2500 even at part throttle, you can feel the difference in the cylinder heads and cam. Haven’t ran more than 30% throttle and been keeping it under 4000 RPM

For reference, pulls 17” vac, old engine pulled 14.5”

Sounds GOOD. No tick-tick-tick noises either! Can't wait to see what that thing can do!

Without too many miles on it it’s hard to tell. Could feel on the drive back to the house after shutting it off that the ecm has made some corrections.

Wife said she can hear me driving towards the house even just part throttle. She said it sounds better
:saweet:

I’m running mine at 12* initial and it has 36* total with the advance, seems to be a happy place. I’d like to try some fuel injection one of these days.
I'm running 13/36 like a usual sbc. Makes me wonder if that's making my Fitech not want to idle
