I had to pull the side cover before I even started it. Running past the threads. Clocking it does wonders they said!

Between the Orange paint and the thread sealant that I liberally applied, it looks a bit like a stripper with runny mascara

So finally got the 205 to stop leaking, and took it for a test drive. Observations:

1) 205s are surprisingly quiet with all of the parts in them

2) It sounds a shit ton better with 3” mufflers and no tail pipes.

3) Thermostat works today

4) Between the mufflers and the intake turtle, it absolutely picked up power between 2-3k RPM. That feeling you get when it “starts to pull” is down about 4-500 RPM

6) it sounds better

7) Only 1 dB louder inside and outside at idle

8) lifted square bodies are interesting at 100 mph

9) this is the longest hour a 205 has gone without leaking
That's awesome.

Throw a camper on the back and hit the same speed with a lifted square. It's all fun and games until a gust hits the truck from the side. Then you might have to change your shorts.

That's cool the turtle bumped the power.

I’m good without the camper, my work van is the Santa Maria

Also changed the mufflers up one size. Not sure how much difference each one made, but got some of that back that I lost going to the open plenum

Are you still running atf in the 465?

I was driving my pile around the other day and was happy how it shifted with 80/90. But I think and have had other guys drive my truck saying the is the nicest shifting dump truck tans they have ever shifted.

Yep still on ATF. What I can say for sure is that the later ones seem to shift better. Is yours still a 77 box, or did you change that when you did the engine?

This is a 32 spline out of a later truck, steel top plate though

I thought all the 465s took 80/90w.
Didn't know you could run them with ATF. Thought atf was more of a hydraulic fluid than a lube :dunno: .
I guess they do use it in T-cases though. Never really thought about it before.

Was told that atf doesn’t have the wear plating additives like hydraulic oil.
That said, I’m using Dex 6, which is the synthetic. It’s supposed to be as close to the fluid they use in the 4500s without the price tag

What’s the advantage of atf in the 465? I know the factory used in later 205’s but that was mostly related to squeezing mpg’s.
