"The Raped Grape" turning wilted raisin... ***crash update, pics start post 600***

Im going off age old memories here, but I think you match the brown wires together, then hook that up, and the red goes to the back on the charging lug.

As far as the alt I want the newer style with the seep pulley on it because if the alt goes out I don't want to deal with swapping the pulley every time. I'll have to do some more looking then on wiring.

That wouldn't be the problem. The old style alternator won't bolt up to the serpentine brackets.

That being said, you almost always have to swap pulleys when putting an alternator on.

Well I think everything is all good with the serp setup and the wiring on the alternator. Got it fired up and ram it for a few minutes with no leaks or anything so I will get it out tomorrow and do some test driving and see how it feels finally having power steering :thumb:

Got box pulled off today and went and looked at a flat bed a neighbor has. He said he had to think about parting with it but if he is I think I'm gonna do it. What do you guys think?

Not a big fan of flatbeds unless your original bed is falling to pieces or something.

I only see flatbeds as a replacement for the original bed after it rusts/gets smashed or you make a low profile bed for wheeling that allows you to bob the frame and maybe integrate a roll bar and side protection.

Yah my bed is pretty gone I took it off today and most of the support rails underneath are gone and there is a lot of bondo in the box as well as some dents and rust. That's the only reason I'm considering the flat bed

Gotcha. In that case, baring finding a rust free or low rust bed...go with the flatbed.

Unless it's one of those 1000lb all steel overbuilt "I kin weld an' I gots scrap steel!" flatbeds some guys come up with.

Yah it is a pretty heavy looking flat bed but it is a really nicely built flat bed. However I have some ideas to cut it down some and save some weight on it. I'll have to see how everything pans out with it. Who knows what will happen :dunno: I'm always changing my mind haha

I hate flat beds. Did you see what John (80'427) did with his box?

I don't think I have. I'll have to check it out. What's the name of his thread?

Ive showed you it. The propane powered one thats dovetailed or whatever. With hubcaps, cant forget the hubcaps :haha:

I'd love to do a dove tail box with a cage but I have heard before that a narrowed bed is illegal to run on the road so that is the only reason I wouldn't go that route. Maybe I should do some more research into finding out the law. Does anyone know for sure? I'm in Michigan so has to be compliant with MI law

Im pretty sure johns is on hinges at the front of the bedsides so he can pull it in or back out to normal looking.

His does have hinges if memory serves me. Whats stupid is around here I have drove a old mudtruck my friend had with no fenders, hood or grill to the gas station several dozen times for gas, food, smokes and ect when we was working on it, on top of that it was a police substation, but been pulled over for a cracked windshield in my car.

And they even came over and asked about the motor in the truck. LOL :haha:

Just talked with a guy I work with who does a lot of wheeling and he was telling me he has a friend with a dove tailed truck and the only trouble he has ever had on the road is gotten a fix it ticket and just had to make up some mud flaps for it to get the ticket signed off on then he took them back off. Hmmmmm decisions decisions :dunno:
