The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Awesome place, but yeah you definitly need to take your time if you don't wanna beat your rig to pieces.

So my drivers front fender has been broken at the top by the cowl for over a year now and while runnng burro wash the passenger side fender broke down at the bottom. So over the weekend I loosened up the fenders, pried everything back into alignment and welded them back together. I even had a crack in the cowl where the passenger fender bolts on. I checked the frame for cracks and didn’t find anything not even any loose hardware. The front end of the truck feels better now, it’s crazy how much the frame relies on the body to keep everything feeling solid. I’d love to tear the front end off the truck, plate the frame and build an engine cage. That probably won’t happen til the next engine swap.

Good catch. Makes me think I need to go check my junk.

Daisy got dirty today. We went out and drove an easy trail (road) just north of town with some friends. There were some puddles out there from the rain earlier this week and almost no dust. The road is pretty smooth for the most part, we probably averaged 20mph. The first big puddle reminded me that I needed new wiper blades, 4 months ago. Haha!

What is awesome Scott is you still wheel Daisy. So many guys get a rig like your yota and that's it. They kind if forget about whatever else they had.

Very cool man

It works out really well, Christy likes doing easier stuff in the Suburban and I like pushing myself in the yota. Either way, I’m out in the dirt having a good time.

Does any of you have a pic of the fender where it breaks up top? I'm pretty sure mine did this on the passenger side on the desert trip after 100 or so miles of washboard. I found one of the two upper fender bolts loose on the trip and tightened it and the noise went away. Half way up red cone it started up again. It's closed up the Gap at the top of the fender to the door too.

It's annoying as hell for sure. I can put up with some noise but that one sounds like the window regulator is loose and banging inside he door over every sharp bump.

Passenger side near blower. There’s a bigger crack right against the firewall you can see.

Thanks! It's actually pretty funny. I picked up my Dad and went over to the golden super cruise to meet up with some of the other guys from here. We were standing there talking about this issue and my Dad yells over to me to come check this loose bolt. He had the passenger door open and the one fender bolt you can see was loose enough he could back it out by hand. I had my 1/4" Matco electric impact in the back and zipped that bolt tight.

No more rattle. As far as I can see I have no cracks yet.

These frames are not stiff enough, they flex too much and it wears the body out. @blazinzuk has been bugging me to build an engine cage for my suburban for years. He told me this fender stuff would happen. Hell I might not kill radiators the way I do if the front end of the truck didn’t twist the way it does.
I’m not sure I have any pictures of the cracks anymore, if I did they’d be posted in this thread.
