The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
What the heck...

What about a small pipe plug in it and a shorter bolt? Or just get a new oil pan but that's a few hundred...
I'm waiting to hear back from Smeding. I sent them 3 e-mails yesterday, they only read one and replied... I reexplained everything that happened with the oil pan and crank/cam sensor, waiting for their response.

Pretty sad the junkyard 6.0 that went from your blazer, to shawns race car, to the shop truck spraying nitrous and on the stand is more reliable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they want it back or just ship you a new oil pan.

Since I know there is a new pan on the way, I will probably just reseal everything on this pan with JB Weld. Now I have to figure out the cam/crank signal issue.

You forgot about the part where a nut got beat to oblivion in #5 cylinder when I first built it. I just cleaned up the head and top of the piston a bit and slapped a new head gasket in.

That is hilarious. Reminds me of the 6.0 my buddy built with TSP goodies, it had a rod bearing come loose and we limped it down the street into the garage. Slipped a bearing in and called it a day only for the head gasket to leak to find out that piston kissed the brawler head.

We did some datalogging while the engine was cutting out last night, unfortunately it doesn't show anything wrong. The cam and crank signal aren't generating errors (which means they are in sync) even though the engine didn't want to stay running.

I forgot to mention, somehow during the process of putting this engine in, my airbag system developed a leak... Now the tank leaks down so much overnight that the front end drops... I just can't win with this engine in the truck.

I'm beginning to think that I need a new hobby... While I was working on the oil leak I noticed there was a coolant leak at the front of the engine, I couldn't quite tell where it was coming from, just seemed like it was coming from behind the pump. While looking I noticed that the back of the pump looked like it was touching the timing chain cover, then I noticed that the pump cover was being pushed out the back of the pump and the timing chain cover is the only thing that stopped that from happening...

I keep telling myself I'm going to take up gardening, it seems much cheaper. But who sits around drinking a beer talking about whats going on in there garden?

I talked to a local speed shop, apparently this is a somewhat common issue with the Dart blocks, in fact it mentions in their documentation that the engine builder should measure it and make sure it's between .020 and .040. I think I'm over .050, but I don't have a super accurate way of measuring without pulling the engine.

Hobbies are just, “how much do you want to spend?”

Your little garden plot turns into a massive land scape with water features, fancy plants of specific biologies and parentage, a nice patio and grill setup, a seating area, etc and the next thing you know you’re ordering a fancy tree from a greenhouse across the country and a fancy irrigation system with built in moisture sensors.

Plenty of people do.
It's the only way I can enjoy talking about my garden, beer in hand, or coffee if it's too early in the morning for beer

Please do tell.
Just in another thread we don't want to derail too much
