The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
The 3rd one will stay in the box most likely. I hit up a local machine shop and got this one fixed so I can keep working on it for now. I'm going to weld a bung onto it for an oil temp sender (to be installed later) and get it back in the truck this weekend.

We finally got it all back together last night and took it out for a drive. It already drives better and feels like it's more peppy with the new cam. I have a lot of tuning to do, so I'll be working on that this week. I've got my surgery scheduled for Monday, so I won't be able to drive this thing for a month or so after that.
No leaks so far and everything seems to be working well. It was 97 yesterday and the truck was chilling at about 196 cruising at 80+ on the freeway. I still think I need to add an oil cooler though.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to work on the truck again. Surgery went OK, they couldn't reattach the subscapular tendon though, the surgeon said it just fell apart any time he tried. Who knows how long it's been torn off. I think I'm through the worst of the pain, now it's just waiting until I can start PT.

Hoping for a good recovery for you.
I imagine that it will take some time, but I hope that you get full use back and keep doing whatever you want!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not good at doing "nothing", but I know that's what I have to do right now and it sucks. I really don't want to screw the surgery up. This thing apparently runs in my family. My oldest brother has had it done 3 times (twice on one shoulder, once on the other), my other brother has had his right shoulder done twice.
I'm not sure if we're going to attempt to make it to the track next Friday or not. We still haven't gotten it tuned, so probably not. The Surgeon threw me for a loop and said if I came in with scratched up arms he'd cancel the surgery. My arms cut so easy now at 53 that I didn't dare do any work on the truck the week before the surgery and risk it. Now it's not ready, it is a lot more fun to drive around though.

One thing though, the surgery was on your upper body, don't let your lower body atrophy.
At least keep walking and moving around to keep your legs and core muscles alive.
I'm starting to get more active, I'm losing my mind just sitting around all day. Unfortunately it's 100+ here already, wearing this sling is quite uncomfortable in the heat.
I've been getting more and more active every day, I just have to protect my shoulder so I don't do anything that hurts for now.

When I had my hernia surgeries, the uselessness killed me. I was about to tearing my hair out not being able to do anything.

Take it easy though cause the last thing you want is to have to do it again.

I've been living with shoulder and arm pain for years now after a motorcycle wreck. And I'm skipping the doc knowing that surgery will be inevitable.
But it's about time.... So I'll be in the same boat one of these days.
Get well soon man. Truck needs to be flogged and we need vids of it lol.

The reason they couldn't reattach the subscapular tendon is because it's been torn for who knows how long. Apparently I've just been living without it, the surgeon did say that's the easiest one to live without though. I've had chronic should pain for at least 5 years.

My uncle lived 20 years till he died without it, your other muscles learn to compensate for it. Kind of

Yep, I had no idea it had completely torn off. I don't even know when it happened honestly, I'm guessing at least 5 years ago. The problem was that my supraspinatus tendon started tearing, it was probably 60-75% disconnected by the time I went in for surgery. I'm guessing that's the muscle that compensates for the lack of Subscapular muscle.

Evaporative cooler sling for outings ? Ice pack in sling?

Did you go enjoy races ?
