The Willomet Charger

A desecration to Mopar nuts everywhere, this is my protouring, LS-powered, 1970 Dodge Charger; built at my shop, Willomet Motor & Fabrication.
Short vacation, busy week of work, and I happened to catch strep while traveling. I’ve missed working on the car.

Last night, 3 cans of Eastwood internal frame primer went into the rocker beams, front rails, and torque boxes. I adapted a 3M wand kit to get all the way to the center of the rocker beam. It’s good, thin stuff, and gets into cracks and crevasses very well.

Now the front frame is ready to assemble. Good to be back.

It's amazing with all the traveling & work you always end up sick when you take a vacation...

Did the Eastwood primer stick well? I was a little worried it would be too thin and running to the bottom. I only know 1 other that used it and he bitched like hell about it, but thinking about it I don't remember him liking anything.

It will collect at the bottom of the cavity if the coat is a little heavy, and that’s easy to do. I did three medium-light passes with 10ish minutes in between, and that seemed to work well enough.

It’s slows me down, but these are details that matter to me.

David on the flat surfaces I use a type 27 flap disc. They are flat. It does a really nice job of getting metal very even
Mental note: saved. These rails are tricky since they are formed and therefore aren’t perfectly flat, but a fresh flap disc should work well on the boogered up area I’m doing next. I used a fresh roloc flap disc on the patches shown above, followed my a 36 grit DA.

Inside of the other rail - gives an idea of why I’m expanding the profile. 2x the height and about the same multiplier for beam strength improvement.

Pardon my ineptitude, what’s the green on the end cap hole?
 
David is the plan to weld shut all those windows or stitch weld here and there and use a seam sealer to finish off the laps?
 
Primer. It’s what spilled out when I coated the interior of the torque box.

That, or it’s an infection - Chevy inside the Mopar or something like that.

Definitely an infection. Just call up ma Mopar. Unfortunately I hear the prescription is an all aluminum hemi. So probably just have to deal with the infection
