Thrillbilly Build Thread! 89' K5 on 44's, & tons. New motor FINALLY put in!!!

Doubler, more flex, 4 link, MOAR HORSEPOWAR!, lockers, chrome parts, hydro assist, hydroboost brakes, paint. Plenty of stuff to choose from.
 
There is a good thread in the garage, "hydro assist on the cheap" IIRC, lots of good stuff there. The pump mod will actually increase flow (power) and yes you should also increase fluid capacity and add in a cooler.
I sourced my cooler from a junkyard for $10 or so, used two hydro boost tanks connected together (2nd one was junk yard) and I've got around $200 or so in the whole setup. Neverenuf just posted a slick setup for extra capacity in his build thread the other day you should check out.

I would love some lockers!!! Is a spartan good for the front?

I would go Detroit if I was you. Expensive, yes, but most durable locker out period.

Well doing just a quick search for a brand new Detroit locker vs a Spartan is only another $150-200 depending on where you buy. Well worth it now that you mentioned Detroit since it is a whole carrier compared to something you place inside your existing one. Does seem a lot stronger for the D60. Then 35 spline outers are definitely gonna be needed!

Haha if I can come across a deal on a builder or decent running one its going down! Otherwise, I'll settle for a stroker. Anything besides stock right?!

I guess anythings better than stock. I'm no where near thinking of motor yet :doah: but I have thought about doing a stroker in mine. Primarily due to the fact deuling has a 350 already bored .030 over he said I could have to build if I wanted it. So idk once I get to that point ill see :dunno:

Yeah I'm still a year or two away from a motor build. But it is always fun to dream! I think hydro assist and finishing my disc swap on the 14FF will be next.

Yah I think hydro assist is a good choice.

As far as disc conversion my 14bff was already converted when I bought it but I did replace rotors. Calipers. And pads when I put it in and IIRC. It was around $80 new from auto value for all that stuff. I used 78' 3/4 Ton front calipers and rotors on mine.
 
After your 1 ton swap what upgrades came next on you guys' builds???

Narrow the front bob the rear, loose as much body as possible, add a bunch of tube, end up still not being happy, scrap the rig, keep the 60 and start over!!! :doah::doah:

It's been along time since you've posted anything. What's the deal? Where are you at with your truck? Im Catching up progress why's :haha:
 
Hey guys! Yeah it’s been A LONG time since I posted anything! It’s been a busy year so far, I got married in April so truck funds was put on hold to help pay for that, then in may I FINALLY bought a new truck! I’ve always wanted a Duramax and I come across a deal I couldn’t pass up. I love the heck out of that truck and now I’m able to pull THRILLBILLY around to go play! As far as the build, the funds are being thrown into savings right now so the wife and I can get a house and out of the apartment were in … They aren’t too fond of my hillbilly ways there! This has been the longest I’ve ever gone without tinkering on something in the truck and believe me it’s killing me to see it just sitting there! But as soon as we get in our house at the first of the year its back in the game! I’m going to be getting it ready to run in the mud bogs next year and see what will hold up and what breaks first!
 
"Spare cash"?? What is that?

I'll have to :sign13: that one because I don't have any personal experience with it. :haha::haha:

What you are doing is the right thing.. My build was at a halt with trying to get out of condo/apartment living. Now I have my house, and should be done with my shop soon. Not doing anything to the rig for almost a year is worth it to have the rest of my life to build things in my own shop. Keep at it. :thumb:

Thanks man! I could have done a few little things here and there but after buying the Duramax (which I really needed cause the car I was DD'ing was limping on its last leg, and you can always use a truck) everything else extra became house funds at that point. But I cant wait to get out of the apartment and in my own house! Only thing is, where were looking to move has a dang HOA which I despise, but the wife wants to live in within a decent mileage range of work.... Gotta comply somewhat as she is the breadwinner... :doah:At least with the house I can take stuff in the garage and work on it!

I live in a HOA. Most of them are to keep people like us out. The only reason for mine is the private road I live on. The association dues just pay for road upkeep. Make sure you request a copy of the bilaws, and run it by a lawyer. If the property doesn't have an outbuilding and you want to build one make sure you get it in writing that it is approved by the president of the association before you put in an offer. Most HOA have stupid rules like garbage only picked up on this day, and no vehicles parked in the driveway. Make sure you stay away from HOA's like that.

Yeah I used to deal with HOA's on a daily basis when I was building outdoor kitchens and patio covers... They were a thorn in my side! There is quite a few houses we've found we like that luckily are free of such democracy... Haha and thanks, I can't wait to have a place I can call my own!

Also, don't worry EFI is on the list of upgrades right behind the house hunt! I am not a fan of box tuners... Just so happens it was in the center console when I bought the truck!
