Turbo 400 disassembly

The snap ring holding the forward clutch band and planetary has a beveled side and a flat side. The beveled side goes up facing you as you are looking at it. There is a part called a " Case Saver" you may want to look into. They are not expensive. They add an extra lug to the case that holds the forward planetary, clutch band , and snap ring in place. I would be surprised if TCI did not already add one of these to your transmission. There is a heavy duty snap ring for the forward clutch and band, but TCI would have installed one of those already.

THANK YOU SO MUCH
when i pulled the center support bolt it was beyond tight
You may want to make sure your drive shaft is not too long, and bottoming out on the rear out put shaft. If your drive shaft is bottoming out this will slam into the center support causing the center support bolt to be overly tight or even bent, and shove the entire transmission forward into your torque converter and crankshaft.

Are you talking about the tapered snap ring for the center support? I don't remember a tapered snap ring that holds the forward clutch or band. The HD snap ring would also be for the center support, which is actually the intermediate (2nd) clutch.

You maybe right. I cannot remember if the snap ring for the forward clutch, and band is the beveled one or the center support one is the beveled one.

You do not have case saver on your transmission case. I would have been attached to the round stud sticking out of your case. I think there are two kinds of case saver. One that allows you to use the forward clutch band (Sonnax), and one that does not. The one that does not is for manual valve body race transmissions.

Well all the parts should be here Friday and Saturday morning I’ll start cleaning and assembling trans

i posted a pic and there was a snap ring on top of the band in the bottum of the case

I can post more from my ATSG manual if you need more info.

Yes, read it! Many of your questions will be answered in that book.

yes , I put advanced adapter kit into an np205 and used this trans and it didnt work
so i am rebuilding cause i dont have the money to have it done

Isn't this 4x4?
Crap! I am thinking 2-wheel drive. I just recently watch a rebuild video on a 4L80E where the center support bolt was bent because of drive shaft being too long, and I had that in my head.

got the gasket and seal kit yesterday and started cleaning parts
even with safty glasses i shot myself in the face!! not fun..............

I GOT PARTS AND TOOLS!!!!
The tool is a little chessy but it should work.

The best is the gear piece is in good shape and I can use it!!!
